4/11, 25/11 and 2/12 anti-Ahok demonstrations

Indeed.

However, I see two problems.

1. The type of idiot suseptible to this, usually does not have any significant savings to withdraw.

2. It's the end of the month, so no one has any money anyway. They should have delayed it to 4th of December...

So it appears that the 02/12 demonstration does not replace the 25/11 demonstration and that there will be 2 protests.

It also appears that the Police is finally calling it what it is, qualifying the 25/11 demonstrations "an attempt to overthrow a legitimate government".

At this stage I don't know what to think anymore. If those people still wanna go head-to-head with both the Police and the TNI after this, they're either extremely stupid and it will be a storm in a tea cup or they have a major ace up their sleeve. The later is incredibly frightening. Could you imagine a last minute 180 by the TNI?

However it appears to me that the President, and just about everyone else, are positioning themselves to declare Martial Law if this gets anywhere out of hand....and a showdown will then happen.
The words of the Police Chief amount to charging malcontents, who do damage, to have committed treason....which gives them the right to use lethal force.
If they follow the money trail and find those who are funding and inspiring this, including religious leaders, and NOT deal with them, I can see serious repercussions.

The State MUST win...otherwise, Indonesians will be living in anarchy.

Now where's my passport and flight ticket.

The Police state that anyone who post anything on social media calling for the bank run will be arrested. The FPIs site is now calling for a bank run for the 25th. No action.

Ahmad dahni has called on protesters to bring 1,000,000 sharpened spears to the demonstration. No action.

This is where the police need to start to really show they mean business. So far, all words, no action and that always get's them in a position they can't escape from. Start rounding up the instigators and if they have political names associated with it, arrest them to. It is easier to clean up the mess as it's created then after the party ends.

The Police have stated they are afraid the rioters will occupy the House of Representatives. Well, it was members for the house that offered it to them last riot and in all likelihood are in the middle of it this time too.

Exactly this. Both Police and Army have now repeatedly stated they are behind the President, the rule of law, Pancasila, NKRI etc etc etc...but have done....nothing. I'm sure there is stuff going on behind the scenes, but from the outside it looks like they are bluffing.

This thing isn't going away until some big names are arrested and put away for good.

TNI have actually stated they don't care what religion the people that are causing the problem, they will deal with them. Top Cop says this is a plan for an attempt to overthrow the government.
Deputy speaker of the house says he isn't concerned with rioters trying to occupy the house. maybe because he was the one that invited them last riot. He looks to be a big backer of the FPI thugs and whatever is going on politically.

.
Yeah, Fadli Zon, the vice speaker of the House of Representatives, plays a nasty game. Now he is from Gerindra, and that is Prabowo's party. That's why everybody thought he was behind it all. Now he swears he has nothing to do with it but then you would expect him to keep his people on a leash.

Anyway, people are take precautions. Flights are rather full. And housing complexes are upping their protection. As example: Gading Kirana residents have paid 200k per house to pay the BRIMOB (Mobile Brigade, a paramilitary protection and anti riot unit from the police, comparable to CRS in France, CO20 in the UK, BePo in Germany, ME in The Netherlands) to guard their cluster. It is one of the main gates for access to Kelapa Gading. The Pak RW has organized and communicated this, it means approx. 120 juta for 25 November and 2 December.

You in Gading, Jstar? I would gladly pay Rp 200,000 for Brimob to flex their muscles in front of my complex. Heck I'll pay Rp 200,000 and some coffee, singkong and cigarettes for them to stay 24/7!

Yes, but the other side of the blvd, not in that area. (We are one of the few without flooding.)

I agree it could be money well spent but I'm rather surprised they agreed with this. Normally it's like pulling teeth, to get them to pay for security, garbage collection, etc.

I understand why some feel compelled to pay for protection, I may also do the same as I do not want to be the uncooperative or odd person in the neighborhood. Besides, it is for our own safety & security. One of those things you do not want to do but have to. The duty of the police is to serve & protect, so it is like paying them to do their job. But of course, they cannot be everywhere, so priority will be given to those who “pay”. However, is there a risk of them smelling the money, and getting ideas for “business” (e.g. more demos = more demand = more opportunities = higher price)? BTW, are the police afraid of the FPI, Hizbut Tahrir & all those who promote caliphate in Indonesia (as none of the leaders has been arrested so far)?

Well, $15 doesn't sound like an expensive insurance against looting or worse...

The alternative is to organize your own neighborhood mob and hope it holds against the attack. This smells like 98 again, and somehow Prabowo is suspected to be involved, again.

Do you guys think it could become more difficult for foreigners living in Indonesia, with Trump's shift in focus on how it deals with Islam? Meaning possibly a more direct confronting of aspects of Islam vs. the approach of not associating radicals with Islam?

I'm almost ready to cancel our Christmas holiday plans for Jawa Barat...bought plane tix already, but not a huge expense thankfully. (though it would be a hit - don't like throwing away money!) The health and safety of my three children are (infinitely) more important than seeing mother-in-law and checking properties.

After the church attack in Kalimantan where the toddler was killed ( R.I.P. :( ), I told istri ku that we'd be cancelling the trip if there was any more rubbish like that. of course, there was a Buddhist temple firebombed in Kalimantan too, and the failed suicide bombing in the Catholic church in late August (in Medan).

lunatics.

Maybe you mean Americans- rather than "foreigners"?

They don't need Trump for that, they're perfectly capable of arranging it by themselves to make it more difficult for foreigners to live in Indonesia :D

I don't think Trump either believes or meant what he was saying regarding that. I believe he was just trying to reign in the votes from the xenophobic, ignorant, Fox news viewer section of society - which he did very well.

Plus Trump is just one person. I expect the majority of Americans (indeed all with a higher IQ) do not want to be associated with him or his ideology, and people of the world will understand that.

The average intelligent person realises that these radical losers do not represent Islam or Muslims.

Personally I think all these idiot protesters in Jakarta, radicals, racists and xenophobes (from all over the world) should be dumped on an island somewhere and left to rot. They just aren't welcome in society and hinder evolution and the progress of humanity

No, I mean more like white looking people and some people lump everyone together. Even though someone could be different colours/ethnic and be from different countries. I heard of people stopping some "white people" in Jogja after some US bombing or looking for Americans in Solo. I am not sure of the year and I don't have time right now to look it up. If someone knows otherwise I am certainly open to the info..
Of course it could also translate into something more systemic, like immigration etc., tighter rules etc..

Prabowo’s involvement in 98 is still doubtful until now. This time around, an ex-president is suspected to be involved (as well).
