Bandung

I'd love a high speed rail link that was affordable. I don't think the roads can handle many more cars.

Besides the doubledecker tourbus, Bandung even has a 'gourmet bus' with a rather fancy resto visiting the different sites...

Without WWII it would have been capital of Indonesia now (well, okay probably Nederlands Indië). The Dutch realized they had to leave the swamp.

I wonder, are they going to put Islamic preachers on the tourist related busses like the regular busses? I think they should. Show everyone just how sharia leaning this city is.

I have a total different experience with Bandung. I was down there last April for 3 weeks on family visit. I was wondering where the strictly religious men with long beard, hut and white clothes are. I have in the 3 weeks only seen 2 of them, that was in Jakarta at the airport. In Bandung itself, I felt quite relaxed about the religiousness of the people. Many women without a scarf on the street, the young couple are more open today, walking in public 'hand-in-hand' and flirting. Preachers in the bus ?? Never seen til now, nor from Jakarta to Bandung or in Bandung itself.

I remember, 20 years ago, when me and my wife still were young, we went in Bandung for swimming, we just behaved as a young couple behaves, playing in the water and so on. Then suddenly a guard came to my ex-girlfriend (now wife) and told here, that we have to keep some distance between us in the public area.

To me it looks today more relaxed.

Regards

The Mayor is a rather intolerant person and has shown to be not so sympathetic to ant religion besides Islam He is also the one who has decided that bus users need to put down their ear phones so is introducing Islamic preachers on all the public buses. You could read about all these things Bandung in the media.

I never used the bus here in 5 years.
I use the angkot or the scooter.
So I have no idea about preaching on buses. If it bothered me I just wouldn't use it.
