Anyone heard of this?

Apparently issuing KITAS on arrival at airport. Even the fingerprint photos and signature done there.

I think the person on the expat FB group is confused about arriving with VITAS and convert to kitas after which is / was the usual way and takes few weeks?

Panto? Any videos or copy paste about this?

Thanks

Already in ‘22 they were bragging the biometrics were done after arrival in Soekarno Hatta and it took only two days to get a KITAS.

No, but on FB is news about a 'bridging visa'.

Permits and Permanent Stay Permits which can no longer be extended, can obtain a new Residence Permit without having to leave Indonesian territory," said the Director General of Immigration, Silmy Karim, in a written statement, Tuesday (23/4/2024).

It's now circulating on FB. Upon arrival at the airport (Imigrasi Checkpoint), one can automatically get an e-Kitas, if all requirements are met. Meaning one has to provide all the documents regarding proof of income, marriage certificate, etc.

That will really speed things up at the airport. (Sarcasm.) When I recall the amount of time it would take an imm officer to wade through documents over and over looking for on particular thing. Will they provide overnight accommodation as they process each application.

I think before departure, one has to apply for the visa/kitas on molina website and upload the required documents.

Of course. It’s just a replacement for the trip to the Immigration office which was necessary (within 30 days?).

I recently learn about several cases of this 'bridging visa' where people successfully converted from a VoA / eVoA to another type of visa onshore. This means it is now possible to switch to a more permanent visa type while in the country. Previously, if you were on a VoA or eVoA, you couldn't extend it onshore, you had to do a visa run, leave the country, and handle it offshore before changing your visa. However, as usual, the online system and the way things are handled make this bridging visa less effective. Some people have reported still needing to visit the Immigration office in Jakarta to chase them.

This June, I hit the end of my extensions on a previous KITAS. My agent was able to work it out that I got a new KITAS upon returning from the US. In the past, I had to do the 6:20 Lion Air flight to Singapore, go straight to an agent's office, and then pick up my telex visa before returning in the evening.

Why didn't you progress to the Kitap visa?

Long story. Basically, my employer pays for my kitas, but I am on a spousal kitas. Said employer is not interested in paying for a kitap since it would extend far beyond any given contract.
Why do I prefer the spousal kitas? Because it provides fewer employment restrictions than an employment kitas. My employer still has to have an IMTA for me, but anything I do on the side is not explicitly illegal the way it would be on an employment kitas.
