DON'T PANIC.... well, maybe a little bit.

Dr Marty Makary, a medical professor at Johns Hopkins University, is insinuating that the US is under-reporting cases, Is he saying that the US is not transparent? Here are some of the points he said as reported at https://www.forexlive.com/news/!/me...hopkins-university-on-us-coronavirus-20200314 (dated 14 March 2020);
  • "we're about to experience the worst public health epidemic since polio"
  • "Don't believe the numbers when you see, even on our Johns Hopkins website, that 1,600 Americans have the virus"
  • "No, that means 1,600 got the test, tested positive. There are probably 25 to 50 people who have the virus for every one person who is confirmed"
  • "I think we have between 50,000 and half a million cases right now walking around in the United States."
A couple of days before the doctor was interviewed, Reuters reported that the US is restricting information on the novel coronavirus. You can read the report at https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...ronavirus-deliberations-sources-idUSKBN20Y2LM.

The White House has ordered federal health officials to treat top-level coronavirus meetings as classified, an unusual step that has restricted information and hampered the U.S. government’s response to the contagion, according to four Trump administration officials.

Why? Is the USA covering-up or hiding something?

Just watched a Whitehouse press conference as President Trump outlined new emergency measures. His cronies were lined up shoulder to shoulder behind him. I guess this is meant to show the American people there is solidarity during this time of crisis. Of course it might also beg the question, what hope is there if our heads of government still don't understand the need for social distancing.. a metre and a half space between each person?

Each news bulletin seems grimmer and, as a person belonging to a most at risk demographic, it has led me to begin preparing for leaving the planet. I am writing up a questionnaire to help me decide if I will go to heaven or hell.

1 Will I still be able to make pots of tea?
2 Can I still watch Australian rules football?
3 Does your TV network also run endless and mindless advertisements?
4 Am I able to go snorkeling?
5 Do I really need to spend all my time on my knees praying and thanking God for being so good?
6 As I am a vegetarian will I be able to get vegetarian food?
7 Will I still have to keep washing my hands and wear a mask?
8 Is board and lodging free and if not how am I supposed to pay?
9 When will I personally meet God? I understand there are 150,000 people die each day around the world (probably more now with Corona) so I expect a good wait but will I have to stand in line or will you send me an email?
10 As far as I know we are not able to contact the living once we are on the other side but might it be possible to get a one off exception so I can post on the Expatindo.org forum, "Don't worry. It's okay here. Not perfect but generally not too bad."?

Bali finally will be able to do swab tests locally, and rapid tests are also coming Sunday. Priority given for Covid suspects, medical workers and returning migrant workers (mostly from cruise ships).

The percentage of Indonesians who think their gov't response is insufficient is a whopping 91.9%, the highest in the world. Also 65.9% think the gov't has been untruthful. This will have some serious implication for Jokowi's government, and maybe even for Indonesia as a whole.

Do not trust the rapid test. Spain already has reported they show mostly false negatives and call them all worthless.

I think Indonesians are correct. This government is way behind on almost everything needed when it comes to this virus threat. The number of infected is probably 10 fold or more what they say or know. I suppose they are waiting on some other country to come in and give them all the supplies.

There are reports of people trying to prevent the burial of suspected COVID-19 victims in Muslim cemeteries which I believe will become just one ignition point for civil unrest - the distrust of government officials will be another. Ad to these superstition, uninformed decision making at a local level, rising unemployment, fear, lack of healthcare support....

fear of the dead getting deader. Normal

A terrible puff piece from Jakarta Post. It's not that Jokowi hasn't taken draconian measures, the problem is that the central government has barely taken any measures at all.

Even now the testing rate is only around 500/day, when much smaller countries like Malaysia and Vietnam are doing thousands.

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo could have taken his cues from the playbook of Bolsonaro or Orban, but thus far, he appears to have restrained himself from taking draconian measures in battling COVID-19.

It could have been easy. The absence of an effective opposition in the House of Representatives could make it easy for him to take a strongman approach to deal with the pandemic.

"But, beyond initially insisting that the declaration of a lockdown could only be taken by the central government, President Jokowi has effectively deputized the work of fighting the coronavirus to his subordinates.
And created scapegoats for his failure.

Instead he takes his directions from Trump it seems. Ignore it and it will just go away.

I guess there are many aspects of living in Indonesia that can confuse or frustrate those of us from different cultures, but some things are just dumbfounding. Like this family allowing children to smoke in the belief it protects them against COVID-19.

It’s perfectly acceptable for anyone to believe even the dumbest of hoaxes related to COVID-19, as long as they keep the stupid to themselves and not spread it to anyone else, least of all small children.

Recently, a video has gone viral in Indonesia showing a family smoking “herbal” cigarettes indoors. A man, who appears to be the one filming, can be heard saying to the camera: “In order to resist the coronavirus, we, as a family, are smoking. Hopefully, if Allah wills it, COVID-19 will be blocked.”

Isn't smoking haram? It boggles my mind.

So how does this fit into everything? The way I understand it is that 22.000 tests were done and out of that came 300 cases of infection. But they havent been officially acknowledged as cases as they do a second test, the swab one, before they can be confirmed?
