DON'T PANIC.... well, maybe a little bit.

Something which I found rather insightful, is the specialists' observation that people who are infected -and without any other symptoms- lose their sense of smell (and taste). Of course it's no guarantee or so, but a rather good indicator something might be going on.

For you and anyone else that bought some, be aware chloroquine can be dangerous:

To be fair, the Arizona dude ate some CQ meant as aquarium cleaner, not the "prepared to stringent medical standards" kind.

Dosing is extremely tricky: http://www.inchem.org/documents/pims/pharm/chloroqu.htm

Chloroquine has a low margin of safety; the therapeutic, toxic and lethal doses are very close.

In adults fatalities have been reported after ingestion of 2.25 to 3 g chloroquine (Britton & Kevau, 1978). Without treatment, a dose of 4 g is usually lethal.

So 20 mg/Kg is a toxic dose, 30 mg/Kg may be lethal and 40 mg/Kg is usually lethal without early intensive therapy (Jaeger et al., 1987).

Chloroquine...
The weird thing is the Chinese went very extreme, up to 500mg twice per day (so a 1000!), while the French kept it at 600mg daily (which is normally the absolute maximum for this drug). It make you wonder how many deaths in China can be attributed to experimentation.

So best not to go over 600 the first days...

Not sure how that is going to work or if it is even possible when returning to school might be postponed even longer. Might as well scrap the UN for all.
You were correct; now, all Ujian Nasional are canceled. The government is running out of things to cancel! (Except the one ginormous elephant in the room coming in May.)

We were joking in the teachers' whatsapp group how were going to do graduation and the principal jokingly said Google Meeting since that is what we have been using for the home study.

Lets hope our worst fears aren't realised. Seven doctors dead in a week as people start dropping in the streets.

Warning. Some may find scenes distressing.

Here is the crazy part: According to https://infeksiemerging.kemkes.go.id/, the number of specimen tested was 2756 yesterday (I had the browser open, so it showed yesterday's number, then reloaded for today's numbers). Today it's up to 2863 specimens. That means 107 specimens were tested. Which is also the number of additional positive cases. Which means EVERY SINGLE TEST they did returned postive?

Possible if you only want to test people who have very obvious symptoms. And like in China, you'd only report cases that are hospitalized, not those you sent home...

Let's hope the next, inevitable, natural disaster is still some distance off into the future.

According to Sydney Morning Herald:

"Health Ministry spokesman Achmad Yurianto told The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald on Monday that 4000 rapid test kits had been used in south Jakarta, one of the epicentres of the outbreak, and that "90 per cent of cases are negative".
That would suggest 400 new infections had been detected in a single day, but Tuesday's updated figures did not reflect this number."

I wonder if they would announce the rapid test result or they will wait until all of them get confirmed by the PCR before reporting them as positive cases?

Chloroquine...

MedCram podcast, shared here, proposes 2x400mg first day, and 2x200mg next 4 days. This is bellow 1-2 gram overdose, and in line with dosage for acute malaria, which is 800 mg. However, list of possible side effects raises eyebrows as well...

The numbers will skyrocket.
That is the basic maths around an infectious, partially airborne, highly contagious, virulent virus... this is going to be huge when the tests get rolled out effectively.

I have no intentions at all of going out into the mix now, I have visitors (Very rarely & only one by one with prior permission) wash hands and keep 2 metres away from us- OUTSIDE the house.
I am with Dr John Campbell on this - treat your home as the sanitized zone and keep it that way.

Another thing- if you have kids at home hand have been bitching at their teacher... stop it!
Yes , you may well pay a shitload of cash for hi falutin' schooling BUT the teachers have most likely got their own kids at home, sick relatives , a whole new online thing to learn - and online teaching differs greatly from face to face.
SO FFS give the teachers a break- they make easy targets but they have emotions too- I have just spent the afternoon metaphorically picking a friend up from the floor because of caustic comments from parents on school feed back- the teacher has a ridiculous amount going on in her life- as do we all- give the teachers a break OK!

"Blame the foreigners" had begun before I left Lombok with two local men hissing likes snakes toward a young French traveller before saying "You coronavirus" which is unfortunate, really. I recall at the time Timor Leste was becoming a sovereign state I was traveling through Kupang and had more than one local throw stones at me for what I perceived as their belief westerners were responsible for the secession.

Standing on a beach in Lombok dismayed at all the garbage accumulated on the shore recently I said to a local "This is no good." His response being "It not Indonesia, come from Australia."
