Your favourite Indonesian snack/dish

bala bala for me
also our old neighbour lady makes fabulous rendang for us every lebaran
and we have a place that has excellent pempek and the second best nasi goreng in Ciamis

Sambal Goreng Ati with pete from Sari Bundo on Jl. Juanda next to Bank Indonesia office is to die for. That with Sayur Nankga, Rendang, Telur Gulai and white rice. So satisfying... Must be eaten with fingers!

I believe you. Right now I haven't had any real padang food for months, so I'll gladly take any random padang restaurant down the street.

Oh, I'm probably one of two dozen guys in the entire Indonesia who eat nasi padang with fork and spoon most of the time.

Ohhh I gained so much weight since living here, I really need to get more exercise, perhaps I should get a dog who forces me to walk him/her.

Tempe goring & mendoan (yogya) (+ bumbu kacang for dipping)

Bakwang goreng (+ bumbu kacang for dipping)

Nasi rendang / sate padang

Of course babi guling, and sate babi ("Balinese style" like "sate babi bawah pohon" near central parkir in Kuta, Bali or the Chinese style Sate Plecing Arjuna somewhere in Denpasar/Pak Johan and Pak Aceng both in PIK, Jakarta)

Sate Klatak in Yogya

Sate Rembiga from Lombok

Risoles / Pastel in Bandung

Those damned brownies bakar also always keep looking at me, I recommend the "Rum Raisin" ones from Prima Rasa in Bandung

Once i've opened a bag of "manisan aloevera" my gf brings me from Kalimantan I can't stop either

A good spicy Rujak jawa, somehow not fond of rujak bali though

Bakso, whenever, wherever. With pangsit goreng isi ayam banyak

Once in a while a indomie with egg can hit the right spot

Rempeyek kacang

Krupuk Babi (I like the Rejeki brand but don't discriminate against others)

Abon Gulung if you're in papua

Jajan pasar like dadar gulung

Pisang molen coklat

That's out of the top of my head, pretty sure I left out quite a few ;)

For the love of Martabak manis,
I’m gonna have a healthy Sundanese Karedok salad with martabak manis as dessert.

I work too hard not to have some martabak !

Sate kambing from the street is amazing. I am in the UK at the moment and I miss that so much.

Sambal teri kacang.

Also krupuk is one of my favourite snacks.

Martabak Manis !!! Even do its not a snack but its my favorite !! and i always was buying from the same guy at Indomaret !!
And i also liked the Martabak Telor nice !

Beef rendang with baby potatoes.

Mie ayam

Gado2

I like Pempek Palembang if made properly with tenggeri and good oh Martabak Telur.

I pretty much stay away from Padang food restaurants and prefer Sudanese. With the ladder you at least choose the food brought to your table and before bringing it, most warm it up.

Despite my effort of healthy eating, I still crave for krupuk... :ohwell:

yes my favourite too, cannot get enough of the stuff

Nasi padang
Lotek (different style of gado-gado)
Gorengan (fried tempe/tofu in batter)
Nasi pecel (but the one from East Java)
Ayam goreng kalasan
Pete (all forms)
Criping (especially cassava chips)

rendang, gudeg, tempe and tahu in any form.
when we lived in KZ, we made tempe and tahu ourself.
Not easy to make tempe since the humidity is very low.

here in cairo, we can buy tempe, tahu and rendang easily.

Siomay Bandung! Tofu, potatoes, cabbage and the chewy goodness of the siomay itself all smothered in peanut sauce, kecap manis, tomato saus and a half a lime... I could eat it every day.

I'm quite sure if there was a world championship cooking contest for Rendang my wife would win, just to let you all know

Mine's the Lodeh Queen - according to all our Indonesian mates - whose wives just look daggers when the husbands wax lyrical!

I really wish I had some nice gehu right now. I like it with kecap manis pedas. That, or the baso tahu joko posted above... hungry!

Hmmm. I would like to try my luck. I've been learning to make my own for some time and I've gotten pretty good. My wife is still the master, at least in my house, though.

We did plant lemon grass and a kefir lime tree here in America just so I could enjoy rendang about once every two weeks. I'd actually like to apply it to more recipes. I was really crestfallen when I learned that rendang pizza had long ago been thought of by someone else to great effect.
