Living in Indonesia, to me, is synonymous as consuming all sorts of delicious noms. I think one oughta be adventurous with their tastebuds when they live in Indonesia and sample all sorts of different wonderful tastes of the region. Or you will really miss a big part of the Indonesian culture.

Name your favourite, complete with photos if you like, and let the drooling commence!

I'll start with mine...

Sate Padang with the smokey goat meat skewers and the spicy sauce, the crispy shallots drizzled on top. I swear eating this thing is marginally better than having an orgasm.

Nasi simangunsong with the cha kangkung and prawns, the crispy fried chicken, the salted fish bits in the fried rice... The cucumber slices on the side to cleanse your palate after your meal. This is my heaven on earth.

Tahu sumedang
Tofu, as most of you would know, is a staple dish in parts of Indonesia. Here, it's stuffed with stirfried vegetables and then deep fried. You'd then dip it in sweet, spicy sauce whilst taking bites of the fresh chilli served on the side.

Tempe in any form. Also nasi padang the spicier the better but I'll give any of the organs etc a miss thank you :p
Oh and a lovely Javanese Soto Ayam with pekedels

Jengkol in the hot red chilli sauce.

Jengkol sandwiches,

Jengkol with Ayam Bakar

Jengkol with ... anything or on its own

Rendang

Sate Ayam - but the sauce and the lontong rice - more than the meat

Gehu Pedas

Nasi Kuning

Nasi Uduk

Tempe with sambal

Emping crackers

Singkong goreng - minus the shredded plastic (cheese?)

I don't eat bottom dwellers- so no shellfish for me

Terasi makes me want to vom at the smell of it

Most fruits & veg that I tried

not sure I have a favourite if my list is anything to go by ;)

Tempe in any form. I can't find any tempe in Australia as tasty as those tempe in Indonesia. Cassava leaves curry.

I couldn't get enough nasi padang when I visited. I love the innards like spleen, intestine, and brain. Raised in Jakarta I love jengkol and pete too, I just need to be careful where and how I pee ;)

Oh, how can I forget a proper and complete Gudeg meal...

Nice tender padang style rendang with nasi putih, eaten with rice. I don't eat it often because the flavour is quite strong and once I've had it, I'm happy for a while. But when I'm gettin' it, it's heavenly.

Love my pempek, nasi uduk (the breakfast kind, with tempeh, beehun, semur tahu, semur telor or telor balado and a side of bakwan), martabak telor, and the list goes on and on and on.

I got a crush on this new gado2 place that opened near my house: Gado Gado Siram Ibu Kartini. Love the fresh veggies, love the bumbu and their tempeh mendoan goes so well with it.

Sambal Goreng Ati with pete from Sari Bundo on Jl. Juanda next to Bank Indonesia office is to die for. That with Sayur Nankga, Rendang, Telur Gulai and white rice. So satisfying... Must be eaten with fingers!

Freshly made emping crackers... totally addictive!:biggrin1:

California Fried Chicken. Because...it's Indonesian...

Okok more seriously...

Soto Betawi Daging. I stay away from the more adventurous animal products for this.
I'll take my dish of rice and dump it in. In the soto there's potatoes, tomatoes, meat, and the most amazing broth with coconut milk. Damn i'm hungry now.

Nasi pecel in daun pisang from the green hut opposite the bird shop in Banyuwangi Kota. Perfect breakfast setup for the ferry trip to Bali.

Rendang sapi dan krupuk. Es campur n bakso. Not bakso tikus though lol
