The thing is that mainstream civil rights organizations including the NAACP and Black Lives Matter have condemned the ambush murders of police officers and repeatedly disassociated themselves from the perpetrators and their views. Carrying the stars and bars along with assault weapons is not so much a protest as it is a Clan inspired statement. In that regard, the "protest" is a symbol of white Southern privilege -- a heritage some American still seem to long for.

The racial lines are more pronounced now than they've been since the O.J. Simpson trial and Rodney King/L.A. riots. Why these protesters chose the NAACP, a dinosaur organization with only the most tangential links to Black Lives Matter, is beyond me. They are, however, speaking from nearly the same place as their Black Lives Matter counterparts. Just as black people suffer from more traffic stops and harassment from the police(be they white or not), so are white people victimized by black people at a significant rate. The most racially charged members of each race see the other side with suspicion, they draw racial lines.

I sympathize with Black Lives Matter in that it's just a movement and the goal is for all lives to matter; improving police interactions with black people will by default make all lives matter. But like most aspects of the American left it loves to eat itself. Its a big tent, one that encompasses tons of racists, malcontents and frank anarchists.

Since Santa Claus isn't REAL, then perhaps we can extrapolate that Southern REDNECKS aren't real either. I don't understand why some southerners haven't got over loosing the american civil war and that slavery was wrong.
