As the title indicates I am wondering what happened to Anglian. I don't know if the rumour is true that he has been requested to sit in The House Of Lords or if that is just a false rumour? Any Ideas?

ya good point ??

He got fed up by negativity or, more exactly and to quote one of his last PM to me, by "not very nice banter" and "stupid irrelevant remarks".

This is for a similar reason that Steveandpenny and a few others before him have found another hobby.

Please note that if these users were all reproaching the same tendency, they were not characterizing the whole community like this. Just a tiny minority but this was enough to spoil their enjoyment. To be honest, I can't blame them for their choice.

Thanks for the reply. I have wondered what happened to Anglian. Maybe he will decide to come back and grace the forum with his presence? I miss Davita as well.

The world is a comedy to those that think; a tragedy to those that feel.

Too many flippant remarks could become tiresome but attempts to find humour in any situation could be applauded. Some people want everything to be serious or want to be taken seriously but have no interest in the comedy aspect.

This is a forum not a debating society so one has to take the good with the bad.

That they could not is to be regretful but not the end of the world.

The problem is not about making jokes, it's whether the jokes are funny or not.

Jokes aren't an excuse for being hurtful.

"it's only a joke, you don't have a sense of humour" is called shifting the blame away and not taking responsibilities for one's own words.

As far as I can remember, @Anglian has never been seen as a serious member without sense of humor. In fact, I've found him to be a well rounded member able to talk about serious and sensitive topics while also being able to make tasteful jokes without taking himself seriously.

Tasteful jokes, maybe, but in both politics and humor, tasteless rules the day.

In the days when one sent memos and not emails I sometimes joked a little and found that there is a big difference between humour when spoken (pitch and volume convey a lot ) and in written form. I found that too often what I had thought was a light hearted bit of banter was taken as serious. Possibly this may be at the heart of many who have taken umbrage at remarks on this and other forums when the intent was to be lightly humorous and not nasty or sarcastic.
