Hello, I live near Sembung in the hills above Mengwi. I am wondering if Grab or Gojek come this far from the Sanglah Hospital, and what the fee for that might be? I don't quite understand the App. I need to go there and speak with a Doctor and make an appointment, and need to come back here after I'm finished. If anyone has any experience about this, Please share what you know. Can a driver pick me up here, and take me to the Hospital. Wait and bring me home? Or do I have to hire another driver to bring me back? Do they even pick someone up this far from The hospital? I ask the local people around me, but they don't have an answer. The local taxi drivers are getting more and more expensive almost weekly! I used to like to support them, but I feel they are getting more, and more Greedy, with a bad attitude, and I don't like supporting that kind of energy! I don't want to be a burden to anyone, and would like to be independent as much as possible, but I need transport. So please if any of you have done this, using Grab to pick you up in the hills, or had them pick you up at the hospital and take you this far in the hills? please let me know how the experience went. Terima Kasih. 🙏👍✌️

The only thing you need to do is enter the TO and FROM locations and make sure you have a payment method selected.

Never let a car wait for you, that’s not how it works. On the way back you make a new booking.

Is this map on the grab App? When I open the App, I don't see this map anywhere? I want to book the first ride from my home location. And When I'm ready to return, I will book my second ride, to return home. Why can't you book from your home to a destination, then keep the same car to return home? My App keeps saying Motorbike booking. How do I get car only? Also can I pay with Mandiri, Or cash? Thank you

You see the map after you input your "from" and "to" location. In the peak hour, when the road is the busiest or when weather is bad the cost is higher.
I never got "motorbike booking only". There's always option...
When you click "book grab car" your order is confirmed and the app starts to search a driver for you (from active drivers closest to your location). If the driver is found, you get a message and you can chat with you driver. You can explain details of your location (colour of your fence, your shirt, special landmark).
The chance that the same driver is still nearby your hospital when you are ready is quite slim. Otherwise probably you can ask if he wants to wait for some extra money and pay the ride back outside the app - which is risky for your safety. You can share your movement and location, this is an safety feature.
Payment, there's ovopay, it works like apple pay. Or cash. There are other options too but I don't remember anymore. Sometimes they don't have enough (small) change, but you can round up if you like.

Thank you very much for your input. When I was downloading the App, and trying to understand it. I wanted to know the cost of a trip, from the Hospital back home, and accidentally booked a ride when I really wasn't ready. It sent a driver and that got cancelled. It is not easy to cancel a ride! , So now I have a small cancellation fee! My Bad! Next week I'm going to use Grab for the first time. I hope all goes well. I was opposed to using Grab and Gojek, in support of local Taxi drivers, but after the driver I've normally been using, up the price again by 100,000RP. And Showed a Greedy side of himself, I think these Taxi Apps are a good way to teach the Local Taxi drivers to stay humble, and not listen to their friends, and want more, and more $. Greed is a Wicked Pleasure!

I dont know the area you live in well - it can be hard to get grab/ gocars when you are in rural areas in Bali. If you live in a rural area you may need to keep your relationship with the local drivers in better standing - they will be the ones you end up relying on in an emergency. Sometimes it worth paying a little extra to keep a smooth relationship but I understand if you feel you are being ripped off. 100k is only 5 euros.

In Grab there is an option to pay extra to have a driver for X hours so if you know how long the whole trip takes you can use the "rent by the hour" option. This way the same driver will collect you, wait around and then bring you back home.

Thanks, you're right about the relationship thing. But don't forget, we live in Bali, not the West. Don't think how 100k is only 5 Euros. It's this type of thinking that creates them to get Greedy! When you have been here a long time, and know the normal price, and see the prices going up and up, it gets tough knowing where to draw the line. Foreigners have to learn the money here, and going rate for goods. It's a mistake to overpay, and it encourages Greed!
Also the double standard for locals and Westerners on pricing. Yes we come from a background of a higher wages, but don't forget. It's also more expensive for goods in the West. We all must understand, People from Third world countries, think because we can buy Airplane tickets, and come from more Wealthy countries, that we are all Rich. Some of us are Not, some Are! It's all OK. If possible, be generous, and help out others when you can, but do it when it comes from the Heart! 👍
That's another topic. Stick to The current subject! 👍🙏

Hi Shadrach, Grab and Gojek usually do cover the Mengwi area, though it depends on driver availability. The app shows the fare upfront, which helps. Drivers normally won’t wait at the hospital, but you can easily book another ride back. Pickup at Sanglah is generally fine, it may just take a bit longer to find a driver in the hills. Overall, still cheaper than local taxis.
