The United Arab Emirates has dropped British universities from a list of schools their citizens can study at under government scholarship. The reason according to the Financial Times in London, which broke the story, is over concerns that students will become radicalized in Britain due to the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Isn’t it shocking that a Muslim-majority country is more concerned with the negative impact of the Muslim Brotherhood than a non-Muslim western country.

The Muslim Brotherhood is a fundamentalist religious and political movement that began in Egypt in 1928 under scholar Hassan al-Banna. He took a view that Islam should not just be a religion but was core to every aspect of life and advocated for the Islamization of all aspects of society.

Are the Muslim Brotherhood in Indonesia? Perhaps using another name?

The weird thing is that the PKS, the political party (7%) which would be the ‘representation’ in Indonesia, is not really known for extremism. They advocate a moderate and tolerant Islam.

That makes me think that it could be a geopolitical move from the UAE against countries like Egypt. Don’t forget they have chosen different sides in Sudan and there are also tensions in the Red Sea area.

I wonder what the real reason is for the UAE's action and if it's tied to their relationship with Israel. I doubt exposure to MB outreach is much more likely in the UK than elsewhere.

The UK has unfortunately taken a strong turn towards Islamic radicalization over the last few years especially on university campuses. So I think the UAE elite are rightly concerned that their children will come back from the UK as terrorists or certainly radicalized to some extent, which they want to avoid at all costs. I don't think they want to pay for 3 years for their kids attending demonstrations about Palestine, they would like to spend money on their kids learning something useful.

Have they really, and how? Or is it an issue of free speech, which the UK seems to have been curtailing over the last couple of years further to pressure from a certain country in the ME?

History and origin of the Muslim Brotherhood. Excellent research work and interesting interviews.

A scary bunch.

The UAE minister of foreign affairs talked about this problem many years ago.

Where religions focus mainly on the notion that this life is not important and the only worthwhile object is to be pure and get to heaven the results invariably distract from developing life on earth. In 1981 a book was published "Among the Believers- An Islamic Journey." Naipaul focued on Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia and Pakistan. He wrote that the predominant view was that everything in these countries would be wonderful if only people would be good Muslims. He concluded that this was a major factor in such poor development of infrastructure. All this aspect of development would happen automatically once the people became good Muslims. In sha Allah.

Not by any means just a Muslim thing. The great cathedrals of the Catholic church have been built with funds seduced from adherents and as is the case with many very wealthy fundamentalist Christian preachers who frighten the life out of people with the threat of imminent Armeggdon.

Not sure what you're disagreeing with. It is a well-known fact that the UAE absolutely hates the Muslim brotherhood and considers them a terrorist organization.
It is also well known fact that the Muslim brotherhood set up their international headquarters in Northwest London in 2014, which enraged the UAE so much that they threatened to cancel contracts with the UK unless an investigation took place.
Now they have effectively banned their children from studying in the UK because of this terrorist infiltration of campuses by MB, which anyone could see recently in all the Palestinian protests that took place.
Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean you can always blame it on Israel.

I was questioning your first statement, hence the 'have they really, and how?', and the real reason for the UAE's move. The UK's not the only place with both the MB and good universities.

We have to be careful with our news sources since a lot of them aren't really concerned with presenting unbiased reporting. It looks like GB News is one of those.

The O.P.'s article is from the F.T.
I think they are rather reliable !

And a quick search on internet will bring up plenty proper sources.

And the M.B. is very actif in France also, as well as their host / sponsor QATAR.

The article cited by the OP was about the UAE not allowing students to matriculate in the UK. It wasn't wannabe Fox News clickbait targeted to rile the uninformed. There's a difference.
My questions of whether the UK really has taken a hard turn toward radicalization especially on university campuses and whether that's the real reason for the UAE's move remain. Did they do the same for students going to France?

When was the last time you were in the UK or France, if you have ever been there....

Ok, bye !

The UK, not recently. France, not so long ago, and many times over the years. But I haven't attended a university either place. When's the last time you've spent time on a college campus?
I didn't say that your point's not true. But the source you used isn't credible. 'News sites' like that are very common and aren't there to tell the truth. It's the Murdoch model.
