Suggestions for Expat Indo Forum

Hi all. As I am now back in the UK, my Medan sale of goods posted under cyber garage sale is now officially over. Is there any way to delete the whole post in this category, as soon as the sale is completed, as once items have been sold the original posts are merely cluttering the board?

I must still be jet-lagged because what I have written above seems to be somewhat garbled. I hope the mods can work out what I am chuntering on about!

I deleted it for you. Hope you get over the jet lag soon! ;)

How about a working spell checker?

Most browser nowadays come with spell checker installed, so it should do the spell checking for you. In most cases you can even specify a language, such as English (UK) or English (US).

Here are some instructions in case you don't have it enabled in your browser:

Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-use-firefox-spell-checker

Chrome: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/best-ways-to-spell-check-on-the-go-in-chrome/

Opera: http://help.opera.com/Windows/12.10/en/spellchecker.html

There are many pages in this thread already so I'm not sure whether this has been asked (and answered) already: Why is there a CAPTCHA after entering a search word? It's a bit overkill. I always seem to get the 'advanced search' when just typing a search word.

Something else: I only see avatars when I'm not logged in. The moment I do they disappear....

The CAPTCHA should only appear when the search is conducted by a non-logged in user. If you are logged in you shouldn't have to do it. For non-logged in users it acts as a safety feature in cases where someone could write a script to spam searches and overwhelm the servers.

This I don't know. I just tried with both Chrome and Firefox, and I could see avatars even when not logged in.

Jstar, have you tried turning it off and on again?

:pound:

Nah just pulling your leg.

Does this happen on other devices as well? Have you tried clearing cache and cookies?

Thanks. It was a general setting which was default on 'off'. And you know I'm not so tech savvy and very new to a forum as this (July '16). :noidea:

That's what I do multiple times to "reboot it" After that I struggle to work it all out becoming more and more frustrated and pissed off with it. After this scenario goes on for about an hour I will admit defeat and ask my 12 year olds to sort it out for me, which they usually do within 3 minutes.

I keep getting the "too short" message when using the quick reply box for messages. I have to use the back button, and click on it again to get it to post.

No matter the length of the message?

What device and browser are you using?

Desktop or mobile version?

I get that too on IPad running Safari.

I'm having problems using Safari on my Mac - when I hit "post quick reply" it says "are you sure you want to leave the page?" If I copy my post, quit and come right back, I can usually post without trouble.

No, that's not quite it -- I'm not sure the same thing is happening every time.

Are you able to repeat the bug consistently or is it a bit random?

It happens every time. First thing that happens is I can't use the "reply with quote" button. If I click it, the site hangs - I just get the little revolving beachball icon until I give up, close out the window, and open it again, then post without using a quote.

When I type a message and hit "post quick reply" I get the "are you sure you want to leave this page"? dialogue box. Let me go through the steps now to make sure I accurately report what happens next - I'm going to hit "post quick reply."

...okay, just did ... and selected "stay on page." Now I will hit "post quick reply" again.

^^Okay, the second time I hit "post quick reply" it does post, immediately. However, the dialogue box where you type replies still has the text in it.

Could you please test again and let us know if it's still happening?

We have a list of a few things that may fix the problem. We are going down them from the least difficult to most difficult to implement. So in between each item, we will wait to see if the problem persists before going down to the next item. So apologies if it seems like we keep asking to test it out. :)
