Spousal SosBud question

Hi all,

Finally ready to start my Spouse KITAS process after getting married last year.

Thanks for all the other posts regarding this process - very useful.

First step for us is the Spousal SosBud.

My wife's KTP and KK are still noting unmarried - something I am aware we have to fix.

My question is can we apply for the Spousal SosBud before this is done?

NB: We were married in Indonesia and have our marriage book, etc.

Cheers and thanks for any help on this

Hmmm
We got married outside Indonesia & I was unaware (still am) of any "spousal sosbud".
There is the Sosbud (or whatever it is called nowadays) that is sponsored by your wife.
It isn't anything special, or different to any other except that you will have to have your wife's name on it. & state her relationship to you as "Istri"

It doesn't matter whether her KTP shows her as being married or not for her to sponsor you on a Sosbud- as long as it is her name on it as your sponsor.
I got my sosbud just a couple of days after being wed outside of the country so obviously we weren't able to get hubby's changed before returning.

So nope, as far as I am aware your Sosbud isn't that complicated as to need her KTP/KK to state her current status, I doubt they would even ask for the KK anyway - would they? If so then things have changed.

You can take Sosbud sponsored by your spouse but to convert to KITAS you will need around 1,5- 2 months, and approval from KanIm, Kanwil, and DirJen Imigrasi.

A much simpler way is to apply for family reunion 317 visa (VITAS) that is easily convertible to KITAS without the above procedure.

You can apply for both visas before KTP and KK are changed to "married" but to get the KITAS you will have to have in KTP and KK "married" status

Thanks to both BA & Centurion for these answers :first:

It is the 317 VITAS I was looking at (got confused of the Spouse Sosbud thingy :mmph:).

Now onto completing this online between 08.00 and 16.00 Jakarta time Mon. to Fri.:rolleyes:

Immigration just informed my you cannot convert a SosBud into a KITAS. Some new procedural change that only allows the VITAS 317 to be converted. ChrisD, did you have any luck converting to SosBud to a KITAS?

Is this a new rule? Since when?

Apparently it became an official policy in the past few months (maybe even the past month), but I haven't seen an official UU regarding it. I first read it on the mixed-marriage Facebook group but wrote it off as a rumor. My wife emailed immigration, and they confirmed earlier this week it was true. Another forum member also confirmed her friend attempted to do a SosBud conversion and got turned away.

Hello CrisD! I am about to apply for the telex this week, I would be very glad if you could share your experiences and how long it took you to get the telex, terimakasi banyak

Important:

This morning my wife paid a visit to Immigration Ngurah Rai Jimbaran to enquire about converting a Sosbud to KITAS.
While she was waiting for her number to be called, she rang them & the dude who answered confirmed that Socbud can still be converted to KITAS.
When her number was finally called she posed the same question which was once again confirmed. The immigration officer also asked her why we didn't go the VITAS route to which my wife replied that we think about the extra 1million rp for VITAS & in her words, the officer understood.
