I think that is very exaggerated or outdated TBH. I roam a lot and never have charges like that even with some light to moderate usage. Either that or your provider is ruthless. I used to help negotiate roaming agreements and I remember the days of $3 US per day and $1 US per minute to use your phone while roaming and all we had was voice. Data used to be rather expensive for roaming as well but those days seem to be behind us for everyone but jstar. Seriously I really question the information you were given.

I could give here easily 30 examples of European families the last year visiting non EU countries and being charged thousands of euro because daughter dear thought it was a good idea to show the pictures on IG and to post videos on Tik Tok.

I question why you are so concerned about me. I worked in the industry for 30 years and helped negotiate roaming agreements. I speak for the US and US customers. If the EU is still charging like that then they are the crooks. You should be mad at them, not me. Maybe there was mistake in billing. 1,00 pounds for one minute? One offs don't tell the whole picture. I could care less if you like me or not. No need to make it personal but put me on block if I bother you that much. I could say the sky was blue and you would be the one to say "Well actually, it's cyan" Too bad you aren't a cage member.

I would agree 1,000 pounds per minute or 48,000 pounds for a day just might be considered a tad high. Like real people couldn't pay high. And this is the norm there? $50 a week would be an average roaming bill in the US for light usage. But my 30 years means nothing.

How about having someone send you good picture of your drivers license, resize to about the original DL size and then scan that with the phone? Nothing to lose at this point.

Looks like they might be learning an expensive lesson the hard way. I know plenty of people travelling to Western Europe from all over the world, North America, Asia, Australia and none of them have ever gotten slapped with crazy roaming fees.

The trick is very simple: turn off roaming on your main line and don't make any calls while abroad. Just pick up a local SIM card and throw it into a MiFi device, an old backup phone, or even a cheap phone to use as a portable hotspot. While waiting to get your local simcard, just use public wify available in the city and/or local cafe.

Rememberr there is no charge to just receive the message, sms.
