The article makes it seem harmless enough, but I don't like the smell of military personnel vs. political rivals (I assume that the soldiers support the current minister of defense and former head of Indonesia’s special forces under Suharto).

There has already been talk of Prabowo returning to some of the ways of Suharto. It is where he came up in the military and also became his son in law. As defense minister he was in a position to get the people he favored into key military positions. No matter what, under a Prabowo presidency, the military will be given more power and I think you will see them moving into many police rolls.

The report said an early military response was "due to a misunderstanding". From the video footage there seemed little time for a misunderstanding. The soldiers seemed to come straight out from the gate to attack the Ganjar supporters.

So far the military's stance is that it was just a misunderstanding. Military leadership will take a quiet approach since ministers, unlike elected officials are not required to step aside from their positions while running for office. Prabowo, if he remains defence minister will be there until oct. After that the way the polls are looking, he will be President. No one is going to point a finger towards him.

A true leader would have already stepped forward and condemned the violence and senseless loss of life! This is the time for candidates to prove that they are 'presidential'. I haven't seen any indication that the richest presidential candidate in Indonesian history, who is also the current Defense Minister, has made any such statement. (The Boy Wonder is just waiting for instructions.) This is what troubles me, almost as much as the attacks trouble me! Why wouldn't Prabowo condemn the attacks which are perceived as being on his behalf? (I'm not accusing him, and I don't know the full story.)

Did someone die? The article says 2 people were treated at a local hospital. Honestly doesnt sound like a big deal....just a small confrontation and the type of thing that im sure happens almost every day somewhere. Not even necessarily a political issue.
