I think this is a prejudice .I realized the other day that I have never actually seen an adult Muslim read a book, ...
Each person may love doing different things . I don't believe love for books is related to a culture of a country .Reading for pleasure is just not part of the culture.
I did read books (but not for pleasure) when in school and I still do read , but articles , and also not for pleasure but for getting knowledge .
Although (from what I heard) the education in Indonesia seems not good enough , I also disagree that it is related to the lack of love for books .I'm sure this is a reflection of how poor the education system is ...
Reading is necessary but I don't consider reading books* as something important for the majority of us , and in my view it is a lot more efficient for students in general to read short stories/articles instead of books .
