Shortage of 498,000 teachers in Indonesia next year?

I realized the other day that I have never actually seen an adult Muslim read a book, ...
I think this is a prejudice . I rarely see any adult read a book nowadays (I myself did read some books when in school , but since long ago I don't do it anymore) .
Reading for pleasure is just not part of the culture.
Each person may have different preferred options of getting pleasure . I still do read , but articles , and not for pleasure but for getting knowledge (by the way , in general I think there are more free reliable written information than free reliable information in videos) .
I'm sure this is a reflection of how poor the education system is ...
I disagree .

Although I think it is important to read to learn a language , in my view , it is a lot more efficient for students to read short stories/articles (instead of books) .

I didn't bring many books to our hut in Bali because they had to share space with our memorabilia. Some, including our children's books, are at home in Bogor. Here are some of them.

I had many more but didn't brought them over.
They are in one of the metallic trunks in BKK, at my ex or kids house.
In the past I had plenty magazines also. About cars, 4WD, old trucks etc...
40 years ago I had a nice collection of the NAM magazine, about the VN war.

NAM: The Vietnam Experience (1965-1975): A highly popular historical magazine series and book published by Orbis (and later Mallard Press) in the late 1980s. It provides a comprehensive, year-by-year chronicle of the Vietnam War. It is well known for featuring firsthand accounts, detailed weapon sidebars, and iconic photography. You can find historical copies available on platforms like Amazon or eBay.

Left most of it in France long time ago.

... As for students it is said that the addictive impact of social media is even changing the mindsets of students who then struggle to read long texts, skim rather than analyse, expect constant stimulation and find slower learning processes frustrating...
I personally don't like social media and think that it is not good for students . To compete wit social media , education need to change , it is too boring (it was to me , when social media or TV did not exist) .
So how well equipped are teachers coping with all of this and what then are the implications for training of future teachers?
I saw an AI vendor say (in the TV) that their AI system will help teachers to provide personalized teaching program to each student (the AI system providing the basic teaching) . I don't know if it will work , but it is probably better than the traditional way .

Long ago , I thought governments should hire the best teachers in the country , record their lessons in video and then distribute to all schools in DVD/video discs (for example) , so schools would show/lend these videos to the students .

Unfortunately it is the way the world is going...

I don't have F.B, Instagram and sure not Tiktok which is absolute rubbish.

Concerning A.I., I have a son in I.T. and he has no choice but to adapt to it....

Don’t forget that FB has practically been the death blow for forums like this one.

The Historical, Automotive, Watch, Timber work, Embroiding, Skiing, …. just to name a few forums and websites have practically all become obsolete. Just start a free FB group. And if you want to sell or explain something, start your YT channel.

The people nowadays go to a Sanur / Seminyak / Canggu / Jimbaran community on FB with their questions instead of looking here for answers. Many foreigners in Indonesia have no idea this forum exists.

TikTok has matured a lot btw. Much less dancing girls of 12 years old but now they have marketplaces etc. Major competition for something like IG.

When I said I don't like social media , I was referring to the kind of Facebook and Instagram , ...

I see TikTok , Whatsapp , ... differently ,TikTok as a short videos provider and Whatsapp as "phone/email substitute" provider (although I know they have other functions too) .

From these 4 , TikTok is the only one that I don't have an account , but already saw some of its funny videos on TV , so it is not rubbish to me (I intend to have an account there in the future , to see funny videos) .
I do have account in both Facebook and Instagram just to access other accounts .

I know only one Facebook group from Bali that provides similar information that we provide here .

But , although having good information too , I can't understand why people would prefer using Facebook instead of Forums like this . Things here are more organized , it is a lot easier to look for specific subjects here (or is it just because I am not used to Facebook ?) .
