A foreigner appears to have come to the end of his tether in Vietnam physically removing a woman and her scooter from the middle of the road as she's creating a hazard, snatching the offending phone from her hand in the process Although somewhat comical (maybe that's just me) and one can understand the annoyance caused to the driver, others would be warned to perhaps not manhandle local women or their possessions while in Southeast Asia as some locals do on occasion take great offence to that kind of behavior.

In Indonesia this chap also displays his frustration at driving in the region.

Roads in Indonesia can definitely be very frustrating. Besides the obvious traffic i cant stand:

1. Motorcycles not following the rules or trying to squeeze into small gaps and scratching cars.
2. Buses stopping wherever they want, blocking traffic
3. Cars or bikes without lights at night (why cant police just take them off the road or "fine" them out of existence?)
4. Priority seems to be given for funerals but not normal ambulances (wtf?)
5. Cars (and even bikes) with fake police lights or police/military guys using their lights to get through traffic for no reason.

Losing the plot doesn't help though and I'm sure if the guy from Vietnam had tried that in Indo the other motorcyclists would have ganged up against him

Note the iron bar held behind the truck driver's back toward the end of the second video emphasizing the risks of venting in Indonesia.

ruserius, I agree with most of your points but have to add my own pet peeve, as a scooter driver I get amazingly pissed off & go into Tourette's mode when there are 2 lanes of cars in a single lane area & still just enough space for the scooters through- and then some knob in a car thinks he (invariably a he) can make a 3rd lane & block all the scooters.
Cars should be banned :D

Bad_azz ok I agree but as a car driver I see far more instances of motorcycles in traffic coming over the middle line and blocking the other direction too, thus making traffic worse both ways.
It's clear motorcycles should be banned :becky:

Good eye! That bule is lucky he left when he did and didn't push things any farther :yuck:

Jakarta main thoroughfares have this busway system which, imo, is a gross misuse of roadway. I understand the theory is to allow those Transjakarta buses to have no impediment but, to simply deny a third of the road on many roadways, and only be used very occasionally, seems a waste.
I would have thought to open the busway to motorbikes/scooters, which can be easily maneuvered to get out of the way of any bus approaching, would free-up a lot of space and reduce traffic jams.

In Bali the Mandara Toll has a dedicated lane for 2 wheel transport and I believe it works well.

Let’s continue this:

6. Angkots stopping wherever they please.
7. Motorbikes going against traffic.
8. Reversing on jl tol to take the exit they missed.
9. Stopping right in front of the exit road of a building/parking area or within 1 meter from it preventing you to get on the road to let out passengers, who take longer to get out of the car then my 90 year old grandma taking a shit.
10. People with not enough money on their e-tol cards in a e-toll only lane.
11. Unnecessary slow driving on general roads.
12. Unnecessary slow driving in the fast lane.
13. Private cars using the emergency lane in traffic.
14. Guys on the road demanding a tip to help you make a u-turn when you don’t even need their help.
15. Guys on the road enabling cars making illegal u-turns creating unnecessary traffic due to the specific road situation in that area when there’s a legal one 500 meters down the road.
16. Wrongly/too heavy loaded trucks who can’t make it up a small incline faster then 10 km/h on a toll road.
17. Having to pay for toll roads in a disasterous state/feeling like being in a rollercoaster (JORR around the Puri area is a prime example).
18. Motorbikes that force their way passed over your shoulder when you try to take a left turn.
19. (Egoistic) drivers who don’t give way on an intersection where their road is in traffic where as your way would’ve been clear we’re it not for them blocking you.
20. Having to pay 2rb to pick-up your food from a restaurant for 3 minutes.
21. Getting called monyet, babi or anjing when you pay 2rb but the parking guy tries to rip you off for 5rb.
22. Drivers who start honking their horn within 0.01 seconds of the traffic light turning green.
23. Motorbikes taking a sudden right turn with their indicator lights indicating a left turn.
24. Entire families stacked on one motorbike, nobody wearing a helmet, driving way too fast.
25. Underaged and helmetless motorbike drivers passing traffic cops without any repercussion.

bikes, cars, trucks without lights on unlit roads at night...

edit- oops already done that one... hey ho it deserves 2 mentions or more.

Yeah, we went to Mitra 10 yesterday, there were more employees than customers as usual & we were followed around & stood over the whole time so we walked out & then had to pay for the privilege in the form of parking in an almost empty carpark.

Sounds more relaxed around your way, around my way they honk the fucken thing before the traffic light has a chance to turn green.

Indonesians have a got to be in front syndrome, watch all the motor bikes all trying to get in front at a red traffic light, they usually end up half way across the road, the lights change to green but as they now cannot see it there is a frenzy at those who can, causing a mild panic

I've also observed that phenomenon Anglian but thought it was only Chinese who had that syndrome....but it looks like it's all Asians. The concept of queuing alludes them...whether in traffic, in-line at immigration, waiting for the elevator, etc. Even when a ticket system is used they find ways to jump the line.

I had a Chinese girl friend and asked her why Chinese kids all leap to the front and she said "In China, if you stay at the back, you don't get any rice!"

Re: traffic lights, in Ciamis horns begin honking at the yellow. I always find this funny as we only have 5 traffic lights.
Meanwhile the guy at the front finishes sending his text..................

This is funny, it is also this point that I've noticed with an immediate thought saying "Jeez! They are damn civilized in JKT, here in Manado they start honking a good two or three second before the light turns green."

23. Being in a bule only line of motorcyclists stopped by police roadside watching a stream of helmetless, underage, overloaded or otherwise unroadworthy locals riding past unmolested carrying on with their day.

24. Having keys ripped out of your motorcycle ignition by occasional police that then holds your scooter ransom until officers deem fit you can proceed.

On my bike I can take the key out in the on position, sod them.

Also you can have a couple of spares in your pocket or attach the key to the bike with a coiled up widget thingy.

I know a guy who had the plastic bit a force fit on the actual key so if snatched the guy only gets the plastic not the key!

OK picture this: all of a sudden in Indonesia - and specially in Jakarta - everybody started following the (European / US / Aussie) traffic rules. Now THAT would be the macet of a lifetime!

Rode this morning to work with my scooter, broke so many traffic rules (yes, European / US / Aussie ones, not local) and only one microlet managed to raise my blood pressure to the max. No need for coffee after this adrenaline rush and the next dose will be in evening when navigating back through Jatinegara... :D

Heikkil i disagree. I think following the rules would improve traffic flow. I think breaking the rules only helps the individual but not the traffic situation as a whole
