Prices

Ha. You just described a nephew-in-law (well, he wears a Hublot instead of an Audemars, and the shoes are LV's). And yes, he does pay 12.000 rupiah. (The K5 guy wouldn't even try.)

So you lost the bet dude.

I don't know what is so difficult to comprehend here? My skin color means for a lot of people dompet or walking ATM. When shopping, the f-i-l prefers me staying in the car; they don't want to pay more. It has nothing to do with 'the whole transaction bla bla bla'; they simply ask more from the start. And I tend to agree with King Willy that it borders racism.

No bets lost buddy, I have joined enough bull runs and SCCI gatherings to know what I said is correct.

There is also nothing difficult to understand, my point here is, it's not ONLY the color of your skin, that's all.

Let's agree to disagree :)

I find strange some of the pricing.

Example:

sachet of shampoo (5ml) - 500rp
bottle of shampoo (170ml) - 18,000

sachet is cheaper

Or

Small packet of Sampoerna cigarettes (12 sticks) - 13,000rp
Large packet (16 sticks) - 21,000rp

Small packet is cheaper

In the west we expect a bulk discount...
Thats normal all over the world. I was amazed in australia the ~500ml bottle of soda in vending machines costs so much, my sis told me its due to "convenience".
Its probably pricing based on target market (5ml sachets are bought to be resold or bought and used in campsites, both being frequent bulk purchase) (170ml are house hold purchase and comes with a nice pump, purchased once a month).

Do I have a price list of the items we trade? Not really. Or to be more exact we have several of them. You wouldn't get the same price from us if you want 1 fish or 1 ton of it, if you intend to pay me cash or if you need a special T.O.P, if this T.O.P is gonna be 7 days or 90 days (our limit), if you intend to come and buy just today or if your needs are regular, if you are interested by the whole range of products we propose or if you are just willing to pick the rare, hard to find anywhere else items in our list of products, etc. In a word, I want to hear from you and this is what will tailor the price you get. This, and of course how skilled you are in establishing a conducive trading relation with us.
Um, aren't we talking about a shop, which is presumably ex-works and cash?
I too have such prices but its a distributor/factory thing, not related to a shoplot discussion of bule prices. ~_^?

I have since found out that not only is there the entry fee into that dump which strangely enough also claims among many others to be “the best beach in Bali†but also once you get to the beach you have to pay to park, what a joke, entry fee then parking fee, what else are you supposed to do once you get there, just ride around in fucking circles? …..... Unbelievable, as far as we're concerned they can stick their beach where the sun don\t shine.
Ancol is the same.
Went there in a grabcar, he asked (i think) 15k for the car... then 20k more for myself... then 20k more for the driver. Kept asking money back n forth. I was like, either you ask the passengers to pay, or charge by the car. Not to mention you have to pay more to enter the theme park itself. (I was going to a restaurant)

During the past 6 years, my wife & I have operated a business in Indonesia which sells glass bottles/jars/containers to both retail & wholesale customers. Based on the daily volume of transactions which our employees handle, they rarely negotiate our prices unless a new customer desires to buy a "significant" amount of a product. However almost daily our office will be contacted by new customers who want to negotiate a price for purchase of a "small" amount of a product by stating : "Previously, I bought that product for a lower price from that other seller, _____"; Even with that statement, our employees still do not negotiate the price because the reason why that customer is contacting our business for that specific product is because that other seller from who they previously bought currently does not have stock, or our employees already know that the customer is lying about the "lower" price which the customer claims they previously paid to the other seller.
Very true. Know your prices, and your competitor prices, and you can safely walk away from any unprofitable sales confidently.

I've found no matter how well you or your family haggle or how pleased you are with your results, someone will get it cheaper, annoying as that is

Yes but on the other side, someone will probably pay more too. I base things on what I think is a fair price. Not a low ball price but what I think is fair. If that area is hit, I am happy and buy. If not, I am still happy because I didn't buy it. I have bought things and people have said, "you paid too much for it." No, I paid what i was happy with so, not too much. I love how people do seem to come out of the woodwork after you make a big purchase with how they could of got it cheaper from a friend of a friend of their cousin's ex wife's uncle. One time I purchased some furniture. The neighbor seen it delivered and right away wanted to know how much. My wife told him and he proceeded with the, Too much, I can get it for less. My wife told him to get her a price because she wanted another. Never heard about that from him again.

Yes it does work both ways, as the Egyptians say, Are you happy with that price.

Hope this is related to the thread: I've been looking for those knock-down tents and saw a local distributor on Facebook. I sent a polite message asking about the price. Got the answer "Pak, please contact us through Whatsapp or BB-PINxxxxxx" I got a friend invite. I accepted. A few days later, no more than a few minutes ago...I saw the guy posting a couple pictures. I asked a question on his wall. He answered the question in seconds...and followed up with "When are you going to place your order sir?" I asked him, could you please inbox me the price? He answered again "Please contact me through whatsapp". Not sure why he would reply to me in seconds...but when it comes to prices, he insists that I contact him through Whatsapp...shows how secretive people are with pricing..plus maybe he feels like he can start calling me once he knows my phone number...

Just like that, I unfriended the guy.

...and how hard or even impossible it would be to do business without sharing the prices with potential customer.

To me, more than just the price itself. For me, insisting to talk about the price via phone (vs facebook) is enough to break the deal. Heck, just give the retail price through facebook first and say for further discount please call...man just give me a number to work with!!
