I went to the Ciputra SMG eye centre (in lotte avenue) to get an eye test at the weekend (I want to get contact lenses here and needed the prescription). 475,000 for the test and I was seen immediately without an appointment.
However, I was a little surprised when they have informed me that the prescription of my glasses in 1 eye is incorrect (very very incorrect the Dr informed me).
My glasses are new (December 2017). I got them in Specsavers in Ireland, a well respected British company with modern equipment and well trained staff and who have been tracking my glasses prescription for the past 15 years. I think the most important point is that I'm delighted with the glasses - they seem to be the right prescription!
In Ireland it was the Optician who found my prescription - here it was a technician. She seemed to be very professional but I do feel that the equipment used back in Ireland seemed to be a bit more automated (computerized - less room for human error). The Dr. here met me briefly to look at my retina and hand write out my prescription on a scrap of paper.Thats definitely weird because that would be something you can see (no pun intended) I mean if the glasses is wrong, your sight would be blurred
So the dilemma, believe the Indo doctor (who I agree seemed very professional and knowledgable) (actually my one was Chinese Indo) or the Specsavers girl who may or may not be a qualified doctor and just a Saturday shop girl?
Just how far off was it? What did you do?
Because I have severe astigmatism (it is in fact what I need glasses for mostly rather than short-sightedness) it really isnt so easy as +1 or -1 showing the big difference.Ok, I mean usually the eye test they put on different strengths of lens on you for the test, so surely if they put on -1 you would know yourself if it was blurred? Maybe need another opinion
But as long as you can see in your glasses then its ok I guess?
Ahhhh one of the unanswerable questions of the universeI didn’t say it was BA, just wondered how the chap got on with his nice new expensive specs he had ordered, many people ask, lots of info given and they are never heard of again, did they take any of the advice, was it helpful

Certainly. This practice is common not only in Indonesia but also in many other countries. When you visit an eye specialist (Doctor) for an eye examination, they don’t just assess your eyesight, but they will also check for potential issues with your eyes. It’s more than just a vision test.An current update on decent opticians would be nice.
Optik Seis and Optik Melawan are nice, but frames are so expensive. They also have a limited selection of minimalist frames like semi-rimless. Are there less expensive reputable shops with a good selection?
Also, someone mentioned in this thread it's better to do a professional eye exam in a clinic, not in the optic shop itself, is that still a valid recommendation?
