I was watching Sky news this morning, instead of the usual interest items between the news, they were showing UK TV adverts, quite a nice change from the humorless adverts here, but they showed adverts about gambling from Coral and Ladbrooks, as gambling is frowned on here, could it cause Sky news to be banned, I’m sure advertising gambling is illegal

Yep, that's only a matter of time. That control is an important reason why they made Asian versions of all these channels like Fox, Fx, History, Discovery, .... Also to be able to censor the movies and programs of course.

As above yes usually the adverts are regional, hence CNN etc (I don't mean the Indo version) has different adverts to the UK version

How can it be a commercial instead of an advert(isement) if one advertises on Television?

I'm always flabbergasted by the hypocrisy and inconsistency on the local TV channels btw; you see (besides boobs and weapons) the cigarettes being blurred in the movie, and then 5 minutes later there are three cigarette ads. And 5 minutes later again. And again. But hey; you don't see them actually smoke in the commercials/adverts so it must be okay.

Or the b&w blood
Or the damn 10min ads between 5 mins of movie so its 5 mins movie, 10mins ads, 5 mins movie, but seems like they don't actually pause the movie, it comes back and its missed chunks of plot! Usually the local rubbish stations like antv etc or rtci are the worse, gtv and trans not so bad

What really annoys me in Indonesia is when they increase the volume for adverts. My wife yells at me for the noise increase but I pretend I'm asleep so she has to get the remote.
I've just returned from a holiday in USA and friends there tell me it's against Federal Communications law to increase the volume.

It is, but the advertisers sort of have a way around it: they "saturate" the audio so that every second has the peak audio allowed (instead of variable volume, as would happen if they didn't tamper with it). So commercials on US TV end up sounding louder anyway.
