Be still my beating heart.
As of October, MERP/IMK can be extended online through evisa.imigrasi.go.id website. In fact, my local kanim (jakutara) doesn't like to accept hardcopy applications anymore.
1. Sponsor registers as a user on the website.
2. Search for existing stay permit
3. Under My Application, look for the permit and select "extend IMK for ITAP".
4. Make payment
5. Check the status of the application update to "Waiting officer confirmation" or similar.
7. Contact your local immigration office WA if there is no change on your online application after a few days. They are the ones who will access the website to deal with the application.
8. Check any corrected status. Upload extra or corrected files as necessary. Discover you can only upload 1 file, so put all the pictures into 1x PDF and try again. Correct your Guarantee letter because the wording is slightly different from their pro forma.
9. Return to step 7 if needed. As it happens, I have not left this loop yet. But the end is near.

I assure you the website is not straight-forward, and you may need multiple attempts to work out why it's not doing what you imagine it should do. Take a break. Take heart. Take a coffee. Try again.

EDIT: The website shows 'Terbit' and I can now download PDF of my IMK. Kanim WA kindly informed me it was done after my 2nd corrected upload request. The WA number for my Kanim was available when I walked in the other day... response was kinda slow for a week until I said I will be going overseas "soon". They originally said they could still do manually if I showed evidence of website malfunction. But at least now with PDF I don't have to go back for picking up the passport, etc.

Online becomes more complex old days it was easy just go to immigration office and they send you documents to fill and pay fee thats all. They check documents on the spot.

Online only becomes more difficult if you’ve never done it before and are not prepared* or computer illiterate. In fact it’s rather straightforward but with some quirks. That’s where this forum is for; read the other thread about the possible eVisa issues.

*Just make sure ALL your documents are scanned and besides JPEG also available as PDF. With all I really mean all. And provide a request letter from the sponsor. And make them not too big (<5GB).
