Military officer beats Jakarta airport security guard.

After the third such incident in one month, it seems like the greatest threat to Indonesian airport security guards may not be criminals or terrorists, but imperious officials and their kin who think the rules don’t apply to them.

According to the post, the officer then went back to the security guard who let him through and shouted at him “You’re the reason my family was late.”

The security guard replied, “That is not my business.”

That answer seemed to set off the officer, and he then attacked the guard, hitting him until his lips were bleeding.

No matter the sentence used, for a trained military officer to beat someone up just because he happened to not like the choice of words is not ok.

Possible exception in war-zone conflict, but I doubt going through airport security qualifies.

Well I think that is par for the course in the Indonesian military, I was supervising and engine change at Makassar and the air force were having a parade when an officer suddenly went ballistic with an airman in the ranks and without kidding beat the crap out of the poor sod, all my time in the RAF I never heard of any officer or NCO strike an ERK, although I was once threatened by an Australian officer while doing practice drill for a Battle of Britain parade that if I did not swing my arms he would pull them out of the sockets and beat me with the soggy ends, I thought that a bit ungentlemanly.

Are you serious...are you suggesting this behaviour should be tolerated just because the military guy didn't like the way the security officer responded.
There is NO damn reason for this military man to even chastise the security guy let alone use physical force...if this happened where I come from the military man would be taken away on a stretcher.....or a hearse.

Interesting that in the previous encounter with a Police General's wife slapping a security lady... the wife apologised and all is well. I just wonder how heavy the security officer's handbag weighed after she accepted the apology....

True, many videos online about Indonesian military assaulting their own civilians, to this day. A google search with the keywords "pickpocket whipped by military" should yield a shocking result, for those who'd like to see a sample. (WARNING: not for the squeamish)

Pickpockets, snatch and run, and assorted varieties of petty thieves are dealt with very severely, especially when caught in the act. It's not just ABRI but pretty much everyone.

The conduct of the ABRI officer that started this thread has nothing to do with street justice, but is more about the long standing sense of entitlement common among the Indonesian military. This attitude is regularly on display and a reminder that the rule of and respect for the law here is in its infancy.

It's a bit like when the military attack a police station if a soldier gets arrested, happen on a few occasions or over who should be selling the drugs, it's a bit like an American western at times, except I don't know who are the cowboys or the indians
