Michelin in Bali? ⭐️⭐️

I remember eating at the seafood place, Bandar Jakarta, in Ancol. Where you select the (live) fish yourself and they prepare it for you. There’s one also in Pluit Baywalk.

Anyway, the cats sitting on the wall looked at us with disgust when we threw them something. No way they would eat it.

Our guest returned the next day to Europe, he was already somewhat sick in the airport and was hospitalized during the stop in Singapore. Luckily his health insurance arranged the new flight etc. He says he will never visit Indonesia again.

There are a lot of river, marine contaminations / pollutions in Jakarta due to the scale of manufacturing industries around Jakarta. Some industries just dumb their industrial wastes in the canals, rivers which will end up in the sea.

Also do not forget that some tourists are not as immune as local people who get their bodies naturally trained since in their childhood. In this case the tourists might be getting diarrhoea eating local food which is nothing to do with the dumping of industrial waste.

Even in Bali you will still hear some tourists are getting what the so called Bali Belly which happen because the way the food are prepared, not using a runny tap/filtered water and thus less hygienic

Nephew pantaiema, you make Uncle Roger very said. I bet you own at least 3 whisks in your kitchen.
Haiyaa ....
Uncle Roger aka (Nigel Ng) is a comedian, not a chef. I found the contents he has created are entertaining. Also there are some truths what he said about the way Jamie Oliver are preparing an Asian fried rice. I do not hink there are a lot of Asian people or Asian heritage would want to eat fried rice prepared by Jamie Oliver especially if it is sold in his restaurant at a premium price.

But he is not a chef, so he will not be considered by other people as a serious food critics.

Another example of you stating the obvious.

Yes well done for reading and copying my earlier post #30.
Thanks. But I do not read and do not need to read your post to know about Michelin rating ? Is it obvious ? Not necessarily. Michelin has been giving star ratings that dates back a century!
When did they start giving rating to the Street-food vendors??

My point is if you read the latest posts before you post yourself it will save duplicate posts e.g. Uncle Roger being a character from Malaysian comedian Nigel Ng years ago
And that Michelin give stars to street food.
I guess if you want to know since when you could Google it then copy and paste it here as usual

The first street food in the world that gained a Michelin star is in Singapore. His name is Chan Hon Meng and from 2009 is the chef and owner of the two kiosks “Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle” and “Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle” in Chinatown district in Singapore.

Nephew pantaiema, you continue to make Uncle Roger very sad. You claim Uncle Roger is not a serious food critic? Haiyaa. You need more MSG, the king of flavor in your life.

Remember nephew pantaiema, please read everything carefully. Otherwise you end up like vegan. Always sad from eating tree leaves.

On a more serious note, we know Uncle Roger isn't a real chef, but he makes us laugh anyways. Plus you missed this post from snpark on page one.

Btw you know he is not real right?
He is a character. Like Ali G. Dame Edna. Mrs Merton.

Good point, indeed people could easily google it
Bad points
Everyone could easily google, using chat GPT many questions that have been asked in here or in any discussion forum. Is it what the discussion forum for ?. Keep in mind this is not Q&A with an expert in the subject.

But Google and chatgpt are 2 seperate things. One is AI.
One is Google. Which has verified facts and can be cross referenced

I experimented one time and stuffed a chicken cavity with onions and celery. Fail. Damn thing tasted like fish. So yes, you can make a chicken taste like fish. Not that I would recommend it.

Did you wash your hands?

Of course that’s the trick with many of those extremely experimenting (two or three star) Michelin restaurants like El Bulli at the time. They confuse the visual and taste palette by modifying the hell out of it.

So you ‘see’ an ice cream dessert but taste chicken curry…

Or get a very special tasting melon based dessert that looks and has a texture like caviar…

This is the trailer of a rather interesting movie/documentary about the restaurant. Quite amazing to close the place 6 months per year to regenerate and reinvent yourself…

Seafood from warm water is tasteless. Hence they grill, bbq it and serve it with plenty spices.
This what a proper seafood platter from the Atlantic looks like.....

With a Muscadet or Entre Deux Mers.

People could easily get all sort of this seafood coming from North Sea, Atlantic ocean across Europe. The price is reasonable, as you do not need to visit a gourmet seafood restaurant targeting a niche exclusive spenders. There are a plenty of them available in fast-food outlets in the shopping centre across Europe aiming for general tourists for a reasonable price.

"Nordsee" the German fast-food chain is well known for this and available in many tourist cities in Europe and the price is competitive.

Michelin starred hawker stand in SG
Also the crab omelette gran in BKK
And the pop up in Borough Market hainan rice.
All have 1 * for $5 dishes
All a joke.

Michelin star hawker stand - long queues, worse quality than other places serving the same thing.

Crab omelette gran - insane price (1500 THB - far more than $5), insane hype.

Borough Market Hainan rice - shameless thief fake Singaporean who grew up in England and stole recipes and anecdote from an actual Singaporean cook. Michelin star was for proper restaurant she ran in Hackney, not the popup in Borough Market, and absolutely zero chance she could cook Hainan rice as well as any random in Singaporea.

Michelin = ambience + service + ingredients + inevitable cost (to provide the nice ambience). Not for 'Uncle knows how to stir fry noodles with above average skill for $2'. Absolutely destructive to the concept of street food because it implies that there's some relationship between such a place (which might well be delicious before the Michelin inspectors curse it with a * and then long lines of sheep tourists) and the typical European-style concept of a formal restaurant, which there is not.

Nephew pantaiema, we understand that if we lived in Europe, that is what we could get. You seem to misunderstand the poster as he was probably showing you what a well prepared and delightful seafood meal looks like or can look like.

Back on topic which you seem to navigate away from was referring to seafood in Indonesia. Very few places can you get seafood where you are not worried about where it came from. Many times, it tastes like it came from the can and was microwaved.

Nephew pantaiema, have you been eating your msgs?

There are different categories of Michelin star and hence one for street food
