Looking to buy, rent or borrow a sporran on Bali

Greetings all, I'm not really a social media, chat online kind of person; but have just joined this forum for a specific reason, and to be honest won't be active here for long at all. I hope that's not considered too cheeky.

I'm a Scot and am getting married to my Indonesian partner soon. I have my kilt but my sporran and garter flashes didn't make it over here when I emigrated, and they are long gone now following my UK house sale and clear-out.

I'm looking for a way to buy, rent or borrow a sporran locally (on Bali), and flashes and maybe a genuine kilt pin if possible but I can make garters and find a suitable-ish pin I'm sure, the sporran is the tricky one.

I could buy online from the UK and courier over but to be honest, I can't see myself using it much after the wedding, so the cost of FedEx or whatever would be a bit of an extravagance; but one I might indulge in if I can't source one locally.

I'm also going to talk to a couple of leather shops here and see about having a sporran made, but thought I'd ask online too, perhaps there's a fellow Scot not too far from Denpasar who'd lend me a sporran for the day.

I might just make one myself too... there are guides online.

Apologies, I may not have made my inquiry entirely clear, and as an amphibian you may be unfamiliar with the female of my species; but the prospective bride, in common with most human females would, I suspect, express considerable disappointment if I proposed having a sporran shipped to Indonesia as a cost-saving alternative to us having a wedding.

The important concept to grasp here is that the cost of buying and shipping a sporran would be in addition to the cost of the wedding, not instead of, so while no doubt it would cost considerably less, it's not a very useful comparison.

On Indonesian websites like Shopee and Tokopedia they offer (fake?) kilts so I can imagine they’d have the ‘accessories’ also?

Thanks, I use Shopee and Tokopedia but nothing there, done lots of searches for Scot/Celtic etc suppliers on Bali, didn't expect to find much and didn't.

Bizarrely, searching for 'sporran' on Toko came up with a curious selection of things for fishing, fitness and errr... pink rubber male satisfaction devices... which I'm fairly sure I've not previously expressed a preference for - maybe the word means something like fishy/gymmy/tragically auto-erotic in Bahasa.

Similarly, I'd advise not searching for 'garters' on shopee unless you want your wife to be concerned about your intentions.

I've nearly decided to make a sporran myself. I watched a few videos on leatherwork last night so obviously am an expert now . I should be able to come up with something fairly decent since I have plenty of time to experiment, mess up and start again a couple of times, and another hobby is always welcome.

If you can’t buy one locally or borrow one from a Scot person, Scottish society in Indonesia, why not have a local leather crafter make one for you? There are tons of skilled leather crafters around. Just show them a few photos from different angles. They’ll easily replicate the design at a fair price, saving you the hassle, expense, and potential nightmare of clearing international packages through Indonesian customs! Indonesian customs could be unpredictable.

Yep, I mentioned in my message I was considering that, as you say, plenty of leather workers here, I passed two such places on my way home just now.

I'm thinking to make one myself though, if one doesn't pop out of the woodwork in the next day or two. It'd be a nice little project to do, I'll learn the basics of a new skill and it'll add a personal touch.

Aye, just trying to get a couple of second hand hardback books sent over was quite a logistical escapade, have pretty much counted out that option, not least since the shipping would likely cost as much as the item itself.

I didn't find it in my searches, but then I was mainly focusing on Bali. I wouldn't want to try to persuade a fellow caber-tosser to lend me their prized object if I can't shake their hand and do it in person, and then there's shipping it back and forth and attendant cost/risk of it disappearing. Ta though.

Well maybe they live in Bali or travel there. My point was there is or was a very large active Scottish society in Indonesia but obviously majority of them are in Jakarta
