There are dismantling 32 saung (kind of small houses, closed gazebos, luxury sheds) as we speak. Which were only used by 'privileged' guest. Also, they found another 112 million in cash.

The above pics are why Indonesia doesn't develop and the pics of some sitting at the outdoor table is how many corruptors feel about it. No shame, proud look at how above everything we are.......really makes most people feel sick.

There was a TV programe on a couple of nights ago showing the level of corruption at the prison, the lady interviewer questioned them quite strongly, they basically don’t give a shite, they corrupted everything they touched out of prison, now corrupted in the prison itself, I really think the government should take a leaf out of the Chinese book and shoot them

This program gets a lot of attention, it was on TV yesterday. While the rooms are checked and some are literally being stripped, the journalist Naiwa Sihanouk is visiting some of the high profile graft prisoners in their cells.

Well, 'their cells' is relative; it seems they put two guys, namely Nazuraddin and Novanto, in a different and rather archaic cell. Pretending they are not in a luxurious environment at all. But the scam didn't work and now it has become even more awkward for those involved...

Akil, Sanusi, Kaligis, Susilo, Urbaningrum, Wacik. Those are the ones that show somewhat of their relative richness. She's not allowed in everywhere so sometimes there are glimpses only.

Atlantis, just because the standards they have are humane in Sukamiskin doesn't mean I believe they should be awful in all prisons here- I think the S/kin standards should be what all prisons adhere to- a room with a bed per prisoner & basic humane facilities.
I guess it depends on WHY you want someone imprisoned- to humiliate them? to rehabilitate them? to punish them? to protect the public from them?
These luxuries have been paid for down the years-it isn't as if they take stuff out with them.

Personally I think it would be good if all prisons had decent standard- criminals may be criminals, but they are still human beings & to be honest I am NOT the type who runs around looking for blood.
I prefer to look for solutions.

As for comparing with schools and hospitals, absolutely irrelevant to the discussion we were having, but seeing as you moved the goal posts- yes of course school and hospital standards should be decent and accessible...
HOWEVER, the capitalist system of the world we live in stinks and it is corrupt - look at America, look at the UK, look at France.
I have always said it- yes, Indonesia is corrupt- but somehow more honest/open about it than the shady countries who pretend they aren't.
If we lived in an ideal world - and of course we don't , Indonesia (NOT an impoverished country at all) would have its wealth spread around equally and all public facilities would be efficient and effective and accessibl;e.
It ain't gonna happen any time soon, but it is interesting to sit & watch the changes as she (RI) grows up.

<<<< now that is where the real story is & sensationalist reporters only look at the visual things. I have been asked a few times to write about it, however I have refrained, mainly as I would not want to piss them off.
Long arms & all that- I like the quiet life.


*Setnya is far from the poorest, this prison does have some poor people in it & it has some incredibly wealthy people in it & for the main part I have had the who's who pointed out to me on visits.
You are unlikely to find these prisoners sat around watching TV & wasting their time.
They endeavour to keep as busy as possible with activities that stretch the mind and the body. They practice holistic exercises such as yoga, more physical exercises and they try to have a healthy diet.

Yes these guys pray, and they have a mosque and a church (mixed-denomination worship area). There are quiet areas for reflection and there are social areas where the families would meet.
The saungs that have been destroyed were in effect the internal real estate that was bought & sold- an element of showing status inside there.

So many typos today- apologies, I don't have my glasses on & only have one cuppa tea in the system so far- time to go get another.

When ombudsman Adrianus wanted to have a look at the situation in the Sukamiskin prison, they had to cut the lock of Setya Novanto's hotel room..... eh cell. It was a model with fingerprint recognition so Setya can have some privacy.

It seems not so much has changed.
