Just wanted to remind everyone to be careful what you say on the Internet about the Indonesian government. Especially if you use your real name for something like a Facebook page. I know someone being investigated very throughly that started out as a Facebook post that someone reported to the Indonesian government. Not a lot I can say right now since the case is still on going but just remember that foreigners are guests here and criticizing the government is a quick way to be shown the door out.

... Preventing legal problems related to social media requires conscious effort and careful consideration of what you post online. The most effective approach is to assume that every post you make will be seen by law enforcement, employers, and others who might use the content against you...(from https://www.hamptonroadslawteam.com/can-you-be-charged-with-a-crime-based-on-social-media-posts/)

... 'But, what if I'm anonymous?'... "People think if they post under an anonymous account, they can't be found.'
"You can be found, we uncover so many anonymous trolls. You've just got to be so careful what you write."...(from https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-57280095)

No such thing as anonymous. Even Atlantis can tell us which Starbucks you are sitting in when you post. And from your mobile number McDonald's will happily confirm your address and last order to me. Every mall has your photo and number plate. So not really so anonymous

Of course it has nothing to do with ‘posting’ or government as such. You should not insult or criticize the two big pillars in society; religion and nationalism.

So don’t complain to your Muslim neighbors the mosque is too loud. Don‘t joke about the prophet or fasting or so. Don‘t criticize in public the measures or policies from the government, ….

Most recent example: Swiss Bule did not get to leave the hotel in Bali and cursed “fvck Nyepi!” Apprehended and will be deported.
Chinese Indonesian André Yulus was ‘silenced’ with acid by 4 TNI (army) guys after criticizing the idea for additional jobs for military officials.

Anybody with a bit of brain and some overseas experience knows that there are "taboo" subjects in every country.
I mean, as a frog who has has hanged out for years in British pubs, I know there are subjects to avoid. Subjects that nationals will criticise among themselve, but they will not accept any criticism coming from a foreigner.
Same for us. As ex French Navy I take VERY bad any bad joke about the battle of Trafalgar for instance. Except if it comes from a R.N guy.
There are subjects I know NEVER to discuss with my Hindu companion, there were subjects never to discuss with my ex Thai wife, same with some ex Philipina gfs.
Religion, traditions, local customs, superstition are the common ones but there are plenty others. Try to critize the king in Thailand ?
And using the F or N word is a very bad idea in any country.....

Or the President of the US making jokes to the PM of Japan about Pearl Harbour and surprises

Yes, and since we’re not on a forum for Napoleonic wars I just gave the two biggies for this country. Perhaps useful for those who plan to visit RI or make this their new home.
