It is true for BPJS TK (social security). Anybody working more than 6 months is obligated to enroll in BPJS

For work permit extension, BPJS TK and BPJS Health cards are required, as well as the NPWP card. The system is not integrated, meaning the tax reports and last BPJS payments are not checked, but there is a plan to integrate the BPJS and tax databases with the work permit system.

I see. Then the text is not correct. Should be 'all Indonesian residents who have been working in the country for 6 months or mores'.
So, not(!) mandatory for retirees.

Foreigners on a spouse KITAP are not allowed to register for BPJS any more (apparently). Also there is no requirement for them to have any other insurance either.

Yes, and surly can NOT trust some things read in the forum either. Insurance is only required for the retirement visa and anyone working in Indonesia for 6 months or more.

There is no insurance requirement for spouse sponsored KTAS/P although some have been successful in getting BPJS and some have not.

It is mandatory to have insurance if you are on a retirement visa. If you are retired on a spouse sponsored visa then not required.

KITAS holders cannot register for BPJS Health if they are not in a company or they are on a dependent KITAS (spouse/work).

Retirees need to have any health insurance, and cannot register for BPJS Health insurance.

I moved from Kitas to Kitap and recently made an application for "permanent" Kitap. Never been asked about BPJS or other health insurance.

I read it online somewhere at a webpage of an visa agent. I thought it was mandatory for WNI and foreigners who are working here. So, not for retirees, even if they want to register for BPJS.

I am a retiree. Last February I tried to apply online for BPJS via the JKN Mobile application but after a while I was told by the BPJS rep. that the JKN Mobile only for WNI, so I went to Kanto BPJS Kesehatan in Jalan Raya Pasar Minggu, Jakarta Selatan. Filled out the registration form, including the auto debit for your account to pay for monthly fee (WNA need to authorize auto debit only). I was surprised that the whole process only takes not more than 1-1/2 hr. I was given my BPJS no. and two weeks after that I went back to BPJS to pick up my very own BPJS card. Everyone was so pleasant and helpful.

Which shows you how clear the laws are and how consistent they are applied here.

(The same for remote marriage registration, NPWP, Covid vaccinations, access to museums and tourist attractions, driving licenses, ….)

I would say the opposite. And the laws are clear to us but ask any Indonesian lawyer if we are TKA yes or no if we would work. It gets more and more chaotic after they encounter something on more a regular base and after the horse has bolted they close the stable door. Too late.

Indonesian lawyers and notaries are the most overrated professions. You should find somebody who knows what is he/she talking about.

The laws here are really confusing. I am in my first year of KITAS, and I got enrolled in BPJS very easily. This may be because of my wife's position, as she is a well-ranked civil servant, but still, officers here are really not updated with the rules and regulations. When I entered Bali with my C317 visa, the immigration officer was confused and directed me to go to the normal VOA counter. When I told him that this is a valid visa for a foreign spouse to enter that has already been paid, he asked me for my KITAS, for which I needed to tell him again that only through this I will get my KITAS. When I told him to ask your superior or a colleague who knows about it, at first he got a little mad, but luckily my wife was with me, so she conversed with him in Bahasa. After that he made a few calls, someone came and assisted him with my visa clearance. It took almost an hour to get me cleared.

The laws are not confusing, but the ignorance and incompetence of the lower level of administration is.

Also, the government is making complicated procedures that are not clear even to their own administrative aparatus to execute, and is above their level of competence.

Every Kantor Cipil makes their own decisions it seems and same with the BPJS office. I found anything permintaan online has 50/50 fail rate also but with cap in hand and tongue in cheek a friendly visit to the kantor will usually yield the desired result.

Just took my third year kitas today there's no such regulation. I didn't need to do it (no one even asked for it) but i would love to do it if possible.

Hey @slowmoguy did you got your 3 year KITAS in Lombok or somewhere else. What all documents they asked you for getting your KITAS renewed , also why didn't you go for 5 year KITAP , I guess you can get it after 2 year of your marriage or 2 year of KITAS completion.
