The only reason I took my notebook into the cabin was a sense of security. Now most luggage will include a notebook so maybe luggage theft will in crease.

That being said what is wrong with just kicking back on the flight and watching movies etc. I would think business flyers would like this break? Sorry guv couldn't finish that report as notebooks not allowed on my 13 hour flight.

Depends on the airline and destination.

As long as I can have my ipad in my carry on, I am not bothered.

I cannot see why it matters whether a bomb disguised as a laptop explodes in the baggage hold or the passenger cabin. Other than flying without any luggage checked or otherwise, as well as traveling naked, I have no confidence that security efforts will be effective. You pays your money and you takes your chances.

I agree...seems to me an illogical conclusion. Surely a carry-on laptop is more easily checked for legitimacy than one wrapped in tinfoil, or bubblewrap, or whatever, in the baggage hold inside a suitcase.
Security is never 100% but by identifying possible bombers and ensuring all laptop batteries in carry-on bags are functionally checked.... it can get closer to that figure.

Because once in the hold it is much harder to arm, and set off a bomb, than if you have it with you. Also in a hold a small bomb may not do much if it is in the middle of luggage, a small bomb can be placed next to the edge of an aircraft making sure it blows a hole into the side of the plane.

One of the big problem of checking a laptop top into luggage instead of carry-on is most big companies will not allow you to check a bussiness laptop in as luggage. The reason for that is company information on the laptop and the possibility of thefts.
My crappie laptop crashes all the time and the last thing you want to hear is when flying is "Shit it's going to crash"
