This has me in stitches....the lawyer says the amount of money involved is too small so his client must be innocent. This implies that his client would only commit the crime if it was worth more...
jeez what jurisprudence logic does that come from...I doubt if the ancient Egyptians, who are credited with creating law, could come up with that philosophy.

From Jakarta Globe....
"Soon after the arrest, the KPK named Irman, a Democratic Party senior politician, a suspect for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rp 100 million (US$7,600) in return for his services in recommending an increased quota on imported sugar to West Sumatra.....

Contacted separately, Irman’s attorney Tommy Singh said his client was not a junior politician who would accept such a small amount of cash as a bribe.
“The amount is too small. This is not his caliber,†Tommy told reporters."

He should be punished for corruption, and then additionally punished for embarrassing his office for accepting a sub-standard bribe. :)

hahaha...good one dafluff...I can imagine a memo is currently going the rounds in government circles specifying the minimum bribe each rank can accept...:thumb:

I thought they did as the bribe is shared out in the department, fair shares for all

Nothing mentioned that this could have just been a down payment or a final payment.

It is. Some goes into the one who does the arrangement, usually the person doing a report/reccomendations, then if it needs to be endorsed/signed/whatever, all higher ups will get some for their service.

Yeah, to be sure that amount is of by at least one "zero" for someone at his level. It seems the 100 mil was KPK bait money.

Also total amateur hour for accepting the cash directly, which in my mind shows that this guy may actually be one of the cleaner ones...

Or arrogant ones...?

Look at it this way. Wife is hounding the poor guy for some shopping money. He's tired of it and doesn't want to go and hit his secret stash. Makes a couple phone calls and late at night a couple guys show up that already owe him and gives him the cash. Now he can quiet the mouth that just won't stop. The guys leave and are stopped by the KPK. The KPK enter the house and grab the cash. The mouth is sitting at her sisters enjoying herself while her husband gets hauled off. She knows where the stash is and now has it all to herself along with the houses, cars, property, and debts owed for silence. She's happy now.

And I am sure that his replacement will be the epitome of virtue

If he returns the Rp100M I'm sure his lawyer will declare ..."No Harm, No Foul.". He'll be re-instated because even convicted felons in Indonesia can run for government....and life will go on....:high5:
