Indonesian actress in trouble for insulting city on Instagram

People are easily (en)raged and influenceable. But it can’t just be bad education or ignorance and vacuousness. This society shows some characteristics that also explain quite a lot:
  • Social influence is strong, there are many explicit but also hidden norms and values. And Adat rules or laws are often seen as more important than the civil laws.
  • Conformism (or conformity) is automatic and deemed important. People don’t like trouble makers, don’t raise your head above the mowing field.
  • Obedience to authority is extreme. With that I don’t mean obeying the law (as in traffic rules) but putting responsibility for your actions on a higher authority. Cf. the interview with the guy who destroyed the coral by blast fishing and said he wasn’t doing anything wrong since it was not against his religion (no stealing, killing or lying).

All conclusory remarks that could apply to numerous societies in multiple settings.

Pfff. Rather gratuitous comment. Instead of giving examples....

Yes, and what do most of these societies and settings have in common? Ex dictatorships, third world countries, ex colonies, religious struggles, ....

... so that makes rather slim pickings.

Ironic how she can take the piss out of a place name like Manokwari when there is so much more mileage in place like Wankilama or Fak Fak (nerf nerf)

The real double standard comes from the establishment, the police and even the people of this fine nation when a prick like that FPI idiot appears in a video that goes viral on sosmed whereby he says pancasilla is "pantat cina" and Jokowi is "goblok" and no one does or says a damn thing.
