Congratulations to the Indonesian Badminton Mixed Double team for winning the Gold...especially on Independence day.

Well deserved. Yana, better known as Butet, is a Manado lady, refuses to wear skirts. She has been playing/training just about all her life.

See, I knew we need to have our flag here ... :indonesia::indonesia::indonesia:

Yayyyy...!

i was wondering why it was a thin red flag till i changed angle and looked closer ans saw theres a white bar below it.

...shitty laptop monitor.

One Gold in badminton... two silvers in weightlifting. That's three more Olympic medals than Myanmar's got.. in their 60 year history of competing in the Olympics.

Don't forget Bangladesh then. A lot larger the Myanmar and still, no medals for any Bangladeshi. All funding goes into cricket only but still they compete. Cricket is not an Olympic Sport

I heard the gold medalists will each get billions of rupiah as reward... Indonesia is wealthy indeed.

5 billion for gold, 2 billion for silver, 1 billion for bronze. I doubt Indonesia will have to shell out more than 20 billion this Olympics but we'll see. Also as far as a country expenditures go, that is not even a fraction of a drop in a bucket.

If I'm not mistaken, they also get retirement support fund...some 20jt/mth for gold, 15jt for silver and 10jt/bronze.

Unless they suddenly have friendly relatives needing help...the 20jt/mth plus interest from 5 billion, should be plenty.

Yeah, there is retirement bonus. It is not a bad deal.

I suspect that after the coach, trainer and other participants in this achievement get their cut....the Indonesian way....not much left.

Not to mention the great media attention and TV air time they are enjoying now
could pave the way for future lucrative deals in advertising contracts and clever marketing
even that may have nothing to do with the sport at all.

Imagine for peeps like me with knee-jerk reaction syndrome, when the words ‘Badminton’ and ‘Gold Olympics’ are put together following “Ahmad/Natsir and other champions, say.. eat Martabak, wear Sarung and Sandal jepit†I’d mad rush to get them
from a nearby warung, spend my last rupiah and feel nothing but patriotic of our nation and our national food/clothes :)
