Hello guys and gals. I'm currently in NY, U.S., and looking to get some information on becoming a permanent resident of Indonesia, most likely Bali. Any help with what I have to do to get the ball rolling would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Need a bit more info than just that. Nationality, age, job or business or retired? Reason to move to Bali etc.

I heard a rumor that if you renew KITAS enough, you can apply for KITAP. At the same time I found out about the"Gold Visa".

Any special skills that an Indonesian citizen wouldn't have?

Here's the thing. To work or live you need sone sort of sponsor be it a business or spouse. If no sponsor there are other routes that require a large cash deposit. No matter which route you can take you will need to show some form of income to support yourself.

There are numerous threads here that talk of the many possibilities. I suggest some reading homework.

Either you are a bit crazy to want to jump into a knowledge dark hole with out a light or one of our previous, (ask asinine questions) trolls is back.

Point 1-The rumour sounds very vague- would you prefer to have a legitimate route or pile all your eggs in 1 basket & work from a rumour?
Point 2- What ITAS? There are different types based on the reason to be here. Getting the ITAS isn't like going to the store and popping it in your basket, you have to qualify for it.
Point 3- renewing 'enough'? I am curious as to the definition of enough

No. Visiting in October. For a week. Which I hear is not long enough.
As an American used to laws such as freedom of speech and standards of water quality and sanitation and health care, you might well arrive, then turn tail & run .
Indonesia is a dish best sampled and enjoyed with eyes wide open.
Paradise for a holiday? Maybe.
Paradise for long term living - let's just say it is a challenge albeit with beautiful scenery, vibrant cities and the vast majority of the population are friendly and polite...
and you will need to have a decent grasp of at least the very basics of the language, it would help tremendously to have a base of people here that you can rely on & trust not to take advantage of you.
I have a friend who has been here for several decades, he has a good base of people and is fluent in the language & yet he has holes the size of craters in his knowledge of some very basic laws and regulations, I spend a fair bit of my time helping him to navigate issues that he comes up against.

That's too short, in my opinion.
With a Single Entry B211 Tourism e-Visa (offshore) you can explore to see if you would like to live (or could live) in Bali (or anywhere else in Indonesia). With this visa you can enter Indonesia and stay as a tourist for 60 days and this visa can be extended 2x (onshore).

You can apply for a second-home visa. The process is quite straightforward, and gives you 5 years and 10 years stay.

So you've never been but you want to move her permanently already?
And coming for a holiday for a week is not the same as living here and putting up with the day to day crap.

And "work" ? How? Where? You need a special visa to be able to work here. You can only do jobs that an indonesian can't. You can't just rock up and work at the nightclub as a part time barman for a few extra $

And why bali? Well you will see for yourself in October how totally wrong you are to want to live there.
And rent in bali is more expensive than jakarta now.
I know because I have properties there people paying 2 or 3 times more than Jakarta for half the size
Plus the traffic. The crowds. The taxi situation. Etc etc.

Looks like a recipe for disaster. But maybe his week in Bali is just a part of a Tour d'Asia, to see of a couple of different countries and in the meantime he's gathering information about the possibilities of becoming a resident there.

He wants out...

I think that if I lived in a megapolis li NY I too would want out but to just head across the globe and take up residence, probably not.

Indonesia makes sone eye catching tourist promotions but they are intended so people spend money here. Probably spend most if their money looking for the same places that were in the promotions. Probably why the OP chose Bali. I live here and have no desire to visit, let alone live in Bali.

To me the OP makes no sense or at best is delusional concerning what is involved to actually move to Indonesia. Or, maybe just delusional in general.

I just want to add my 2 cents - the visa agents in Bali can offer you a lot - some of what they offer you may not be legal and when the shit hits the fan the agent will not be there to help you. Make sure whatever visa you are on is legal and that you 100% understand it.
