Hello from a soon-to-be ex from the US

I don't know. But the fiscal tax has been abolished in recent years anyway, so it does not matter anymore. Now it's just the normal airport tax.

(Yes, I still wonder why it can't just be collected as part of the ticket purchase)
There is no departure tax to be paid personally. Any such is included in ticket price.

Ah, seems like this is a newer development, nice. eg ten years ago Garuda would collect the PSC but other airlines might not

I remember returning for visits and beings sent to the airport with enough 100k notes to pay the PSC

The biggest waste of time is the QR code custom self-declaration form at the entry airport point. It has absolutely no purpose and takes a lot of time.

Ouch. I guess I'll experience it at some point.

the Canadian equivalent (the ArriveCAN app) is surprisingly smooth

Yes, maybe this .. my wife had at that time a npwp .. but she was working in the informal sector ..
I just checked with my wife. So, 15 years ago she had no NPWP. Leaving the country she had to pay this fiscal tax.

And still my question is. This:
So, if a Kitas (without having a npwp number) holder leaves Indonesia and goes back to live in his home country, he will not have to pay fiskal tax at the airport? He will not be discovered leaving without paying fiskal tax?
And if this is not checked at the airport, then this person with Kitas (but without npwp) can just leave without paying fiscal tax, right?

Officially you need an EPO of course when leaving permanently. There is no way a ‘pajak’ representative will wait for you in the airport to look into your financial affairs. There is no NPWP so no tax reporting so no information at all.

There is no more such a thing called fiscal tax for the exit.

In case of canceling the KITAP, and getting EPO, it would be wise to cancel the personal tax number at the tax office. Many people do not do this.

I see. So, cancelling the NPWP is a must. Will it cause some final calculation regarding the income tax?

It would be advideable, or for Indonesian, at least to freeze. If Indonesians are residing abroad, and did not report their income, they could have obligation to pay addtional tax upon coming back.

If they have freezed their tax number, upon terminating the legal residence abroad, they can legaly bring their assets to the country.

If you cancel the NPWP, there will be no "exit tax" as in some countries, but the tax calculation will end with the date of cancellation for that year.

Well, today is the day. I'm officially an American!

I guess being officially an ex WNI would take a long while, but I certainly won't use my Indonesian passport again

Congrats! Is the door closed shut to come back to Indonesia?
Today in the newspaper belanda, after the(!) mugshot taken:

"Harsh reality feeds the discord in USA. American cities, often governed by black Democratic mayors, are in serious decline. A fentanyl drug plague has led to hordes of zombies on the streets, migrants are flooding shelters and crime is rampant, partly because much-needed police are left in the dark after Black Lives Matter protests. Radical left-wing scum from Antifa were given free rein, as were groups of thieves who looted shops with impunity. More and more citizens are arming themselves, forming vigilantes or even militias. The fear grows, as does the hatred. Both camps live in their own reality; they hear and see only those things that confirm their own image. This includes Trump, who did answer a variant of the civil war question in the much-watched interview. When Carlson asked if the former president thinks "civil war" is imminent, Trump said: "Let me put it this way: there's a degree of passion I've never seen and a degree of hatred I've never seen. That's probably a bad combination."

Thank you! And yes, the door is shut. It's not me, it's the Indonesian government... and also, we have career paths and lives here that are not available in Indonesia, and a kid born here to whom Indonesia is rather foreign (we tried introducing him to Indonesian food. It hasn't taken yet)

Which newspaper is this? Curious

... because in reality I felt the dangers of the big cities is something right wing news outlets play up in the US, and some foreign media pick it up for various reasons (eg the Chinese media like any news that make the US looks bad).

The police is a joke in some cities like SF, sure, but Antifa feels like a bogeyman. Apart from Seattle's Autonomous Zone, has there really been any "occupation" of any sort? The Antifa actions I have heard of are mostly in response to non-fascist provocations (like in Charlottesville in 2017 - https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/explaining-antifa-protests-wake-charlottesville/story?id=49249602 )

But yeah, I would prefer not visiting a red state right now, and would not live in dysfunctional blue cities like SF either (or the entire state of California). I wouldn't mind Chicago except for the school system, so we live in the nearby suburbs. It's very safe that my neighbors often don't even bother closing their garage doors.

Congratulations. Any ceremony involved or is it a matter of receiving a citizenship certificate in the mail?

There's always a ceremony, you have to take the oath in front of an officer before they will give you your certificate.

In our case we asked for a name change as well, so it had to be done before a judge (a judicial oath ceremony). For those who don't they can get it done at the immigration office, sometimes on the same day as their interview.

So yes, it was quite a production! Short speech from the judge but it was quite moving, he was an immigrant himself and I suspect tried to get assigned to do ceremonies as often as he can.

Ah, thanks. it's rated as right biased but mostly factual, which matches the impression I get from this story

Right biased .. okay didn't know that ... but I think it's right. I know for a fact that this newspaper is a supporter of the King and family.

It seems on par with, say, The Telegraph in the UK, so nothing wrong with reading that of course. I tend to like knowing about biases (though the left-right spectrum is inadequate) so I can apply my own internal filters.

(My reading ranges from neoliberal magazines ro socialist ones)
