Garden visitors

This cute little bloke hopped out the back door having spent the night hanging on a towel inside.
First praying mantis.
While still living in Townsville my wife's daughter (Indonesian) came to visit and we went to a bird sanctuary and into a hide overlooking the water. Groups of upwards of 10 pretty green frogs were lined up along the wall in each corner near the low ceiling. The daughter in law was so frightened and began crying. We had to leave the hide. Wife not bothered at all.

S &P we get different colours of them here in Bandung too. I certainly recall seeing orange and green. They are so pretty to watch.
I have started noting the seasons here by what species is 'swarming" - just now its the big moth time- Atlas & the other one that is almost as big.
then we get the dragonfly season, the yellow butterfly season, the swallowtail butterfly season, the bambung season- they are about now (rhino beetles) last month was the season for ugly crickets (some beetley thing that is probably the ugliest thing on earth ) then we have ga ang season- some beetly thing that burrows underground (making some sort of echo chamber to amplify their sound) then makes a screeching/deafening eeeeeehaaaw eeehaaaw sound (mole beetle?)

and so on.

only ever seen one mantis

Last weekend we were so privileged to have a pair of Javan Hawk Eagles flying around, one was so low, circling our garden below treeline. I had to shut the smallest dog inside to prevent him being on their dinner menu.
& of course my camera was not where I'd left it & by the time I found it, the bird had dropped out of sight into the field next door.
However I am heartened to see them each time they come by, it is nice to know they are thriving here despite their endangered listing. :)

I think it is a baby red dragon fly. Having a nap or sunbathing in my little garden.

How was it? I find them a bit chewy but with good butter and just the right amount of garlic they're alright I guess.

a paella has been suggested, but I only eat the meat of animals with legs. :)

Only biting or chewing it would be bad yes. Is he spraying yet?

We have a huge amount of Jambu on our tree this year.

Which makes sense since I saw a lot of bees this time, so the pollination went great.

Then we got a neighborhood WA from our Pak RT, that they discovered an enormous beehive in the garden of some neighbors.

They called in the fire brigade who stated they would move it. I'm a bit scpetical though and am afraid they destroyed it somewhere.

A little while ago I heard a noise in the kitchen sink and there was something.... first thought looked like maybe an eel or even snake pushing nose up from the down pipe of the kitchen sink. It quickly disappeared so I waited and then about fifteen minutes later this quite beautiful little animal emerged. Just as I was thinking of throwing a tea towel over it to release it in our little garden it suddenly scurried back down the hole. If it returns I will try the tea towel method a little more quickly.

Living in the Aboriginal community reserve some years ago at Mutijulu Uluru, centra Australia, I had a desk with a fist sized hole in the wall just by my shoulder. A perentie ( like a small goanna) used to keep me company by watching me through the hole.
(Yes, and I'm sorry. The sink does need a good clean.)

I note all my initial pics have vanished, so much for using those external links...
I shall try to add more now:
The bat & its baby we rescued from being tangled up in kite string- she was in a bad way, luckily she healed enough to be able to fly off later
