Forum Cafe- pull up a chair grab a cuppa and shoot the sheet

Ouch...sounds painful!!!
You have a broken rib and maybe Atlantis also (he's too macho-stubborn to get his checked). Tomorrow I'm going to be opened-up and a fish-net installed to repair my Incisional Ventral Hernia and poke back this lump I've developed in the middle of my belly....if I were female I'd be a tri-boober.

We should get together later and compare medical notes....and the medical bills....:violin:

Long description in Arabic for the medical notes, with short statement in English ie. Broken ribs.
For the bills, approx usd 115 for consultation and xray.

Medical note was shorter for me and in Manadonese: "Ado'e ta pe rusu so pata!" (English version "My ribs are fucked up!")
Medical bill/cost: Rp 50.000 to celebrate the self diagnosis with two 620 ml Bintangs I took from our warehouse to try to forget the pain.

You must be getting old if your ailments are the chief topic of discussion. Hope the recovery is swift, so its not painful to repeat the story.

Getting old sucks. :(

'Getting old sucks' is the truth...but, on reflection, being young isn't that great either. I'd hate to be a teenager today...the life we seniors have created for the youth of today, imo...is appalling.

All they can look forward to is a competitive, narcissistic and consumerist lifestyle. This culture predominates, principally from the freedoms of the media who sell into this behavior, and the advent of social media where they can forget about other forms of interaction and social skills....and be impolite, crass and invisible.

Witness the types of TV programs we are bombarded with..king, or better phrased, queen of them is the astonishing success of 'Kardashians' ...followed by some Filipinos I'd never previously heard of...and newspaper rags with very little news but lots of scandal. Then there is doping in sports to gain quick overpaid success and notoriety ...followed by fight clubs. I suggest national service could channel that aggression more productively.....and what happened to the Peace Corps and volunteering...too nerdy?
Most of the movies today are full of violence or star wars...I see very little drama stories with great vocabulary. Virtually all comedy is slapstick or demeaning to blondes...who succeed in the end (Reese you-go-girl). Real intellectual humor or satire is unavailable in the media (Monty's Python died!), and jokes are deemed racist or sexist...except in specialist stand-up venues, hidden from the politically correct public.

All generations go through some sort of trauma, mine was WW2 and rationing, but the uncertainties of the world today, for this generation, is no exception.

So....I'm mindful that the surgery, needle punctures and pills I've had this year (2016 sucks) in no way reflects on my life over the last 79+ years...there was good and bad but mostly good by a long shot.

I just remember, and sleep soundly, to dream how great it was when I was between 40-78 years old...the best years....so far!

Aside from recounting one's personal ailments to anyone within ear shot, the favorite passtime among seniors might be bitching about the crass, clueless and self-absorbed generations that came along later. (Except offspring and grandchildren, of course.)

Hahaha, I just had chance to read through this last batch of posts- what a sorry lot we all are.
Yeah- once we pass the 40 marker the old body seems to protest more and it gets worse each passing year.
Hope the ribs heal soon you 2 & best of luck with the hernia repair.

I got back home from Jakarta lat night and I remembered another reason why I dislike the commute - my hips are aching like hell today- feels like someone clubbed me with a baseball bat on each side.

What is with this stink of methane everywhere by the waterways? Out in W Jkt it is vile, also along one of the streets in south Bandung it is so strong I gag when driving through it.
Surely it cannot be at all healthy for those living around it and surely it needs to be cleaned up. The smell alone seems toxic.

Yeah, sulphurs and bacteria. One of those situations where you roll up the windows of the car and hope someone will fart.

Still, many tiny fish in those rivers (they call them dirty fish over here; they're also present in the open sewers.)

And you smelled it after it was cleaned up. Imagine how it was before.
