Hi everyone,

This is my first post, I have read the forums for awhile now but never registered but figured now is the time. I have lived in Indonesia for almost 4 years with my wife and son. We are a bit of a mixed bag, I am American my wife is Romanian and my son of course is both. We live in South Jakarta since we moved here and for the most part outside of traffic have had a great time. We came from Cyprus with my last position we lived in Limassol for about 10 years so this was a nice change. Looking forward to being active here and make some new friends.

Hello. Welcome. If it isn't too personal, can I ask how many languages your son can speak?

not at all, no problem. He can speak a bit of Romanian, English, Bahasa to an acceptable level after 4 years. In Cyprus he was very good at Greek but it is mostly gone. My wife however is the star with 7 languages.

Welcome to the forum @nbailey !

Already 4 years! How long do you plan to stay in Indonesia?
Thanks! Well I hope to stay as long as the business is doing well here. So hopefully at least 5 more years. We are rather happy here, despite Covid you can get what you need when you need it.

Limassol is pretty nice. We stayed on Cyprus for a couple of weeks about 15 years ago.

Wow! That's a lot. It looks like my child will only have Indonesia and English. I had hoped for Javanese from the grand parents, a bit of Sundanese from the mother, and Chinese/German from the school, but he's not getting enough of any of them to amount to anything (unless he decides to pursue it independently).
Have you learned any Indonesian?

it has changed a lot over the years, 15 years ago I am sure it was cheaper and more beautiful. But still one of my favorite places.

I know Taxi Indonesian, and numbers for the most part. I want to learn, and I am picking it up more and more as I go. I keep telling my wife we need a teacher, we did the same mistake in Cyprus, 10 years and I can only say the bad words :)
