Different dates

I was just checking up this morning on renewing my Merp, this expires September 2017, so I check my KITAP ID card that expires May 2018 as with my KTP May 2018 but my passport says my KITAP expires September 2018, my wife KTP expires September, it's only a tatty temporary Surat as they couldn't issue her with a proper ID card, I do wish the powers to be could get their acts together so I can have a peaceful retirement and enjoy life, without hassle from numpty officials

Anglian, your frustrations with Indonesian bureaucracy may not be helped by this but it seems to be the mission of Immigration departments around the world to make life as difficult as possible. Speaking as an Australian with some considerable experience with Australian immigration procedures I long ago came to the conclusion that the department is deliberately understaffed to create a bottleneck to discourage the many thousands of people trying to to get into Australia.

Can you imagine the difficulties if you are a refugee speaking little English and are unable to carry much in the way of documents and then trying to get a visa for settlement in Australia? We recently had a case where a bloke was allowed in on a special purpose visa as a trades person. Employed as an adult apprentice his employer thought he was great. The Australian government has now decided they will no longer allow that category of visa and the bloke has to pack up and leave to the dismay of his employer who had invested time and money in his training.

Tourism is a huge industry for the UK yet you can arrive on a night flight and take more than an hour shuffling forward to just get through immigration. I think Kafka is alive and well and serves as an adviser to government bureaucracies around the world

The only thing that concerns me about the above is that your KITAP card and passport stamp have different expiration dates. This should never be the case. You should make sure to find out which is the actual expiration date so that you can extend your KITAP on time.

I agree...just checked my own and both the Itap in my passport and the Kitap card have identical expiration dates...only the MERP expires earlier.

I understand that MERP is only a maximum of two years at a time? Bit weird when ITAP is good for five.

My sister inlaws friend, and husband, are moving back to Indonesia from Europe. My wife thought " ya good luck with the headache".

I will go to see my friendly immigration person and I'm sure all will be resolved, I'm sure Indonesian immigration aren't as heartless as Saudi, my Thai friends wife returned to Saudi after a cancer operation, unfortunately the Arabic date and English date were one day out, so according to the Saudi's she was one day over, the visa entry date, they made her sit in the terminal, no seats , no food, no water, for 24 hours while the problem was sorted, luckily we had access, so we got her a pillow and blanket off the aircraft, plus we supplied food and water, my friend now has an undying hatred of saudis

We found immigration to be fairly easy to navigate for KITAS and KITAP. I was aware of the Indonesian tax system 183 days, graduated, worldwide income etc.. They would not even give us an NPWP but yet the gov't instruct banks you need one. They are so far behind getting Indonesians to pay that foreigners overseas money is not on their radar yet.
There is a lot of uncertainty but I think Indonesia could be a good place to live your life. The people ,and culture, are quite respectful. Unless you happen to hit a motorbike with your car etc. hahaha. But I have not felt unsafe or threatened while there. There are the religious nuts but at this point they are not causing much damage. I am sure you will get your KITAP dates straightened out.
