Buying new bike in someone else's name

As the title says I'm on a hunt for a motorbike. Currently the market for used ones I'm eying on is pretty high and I was able to negotiate a very good discount at the dealership that makes it very attractive to buy a new one.

Since I'm not on KITAS/KITAP in Indo, I face the issue with registering the bike.

I got two options now:
1. Registering the bike on the shop clerks name (he already agreed to that)
2. Registering the bike in the name of a local friend

From my understanding (never have owned a bike in Indo previously) almost all ownership books are in someone else's name and no one bothers to change them. So my case I should be having the same risks/problems compared to buying a used one, and the registration is just becoming a formality?

I guess it will be necessary to sign some sort of document that will state me as the owner (like a standard buying contract). Was someone in a similar situation before and can help me out here?

So you going to buy a brand new bike but put the ownership in someone else's name?
Hahahahaha
Wow
Ok
Why can't you get a kitas? Digital nomad?

Yes exactly, digital nomad.
The insurance will be another thing I need to solve :ROFLMAO:.

Renting a bike doesn't seem to make a lot of sense money wise when using for few months already.

Or you could just get a kitas and be here legally like the majority of us. Then you can buy a bike, get a credit card, rent an apartment, pay taxes and contribute to the economy and community

Anyway good luck
Hope you can trust the shopkeeper

I wouldn't do either but if you think you just have to do it go with the friend. You know them. Wondering just how you got what you think is such a good discount. Cash sales really don't get more than 200,000 to 400,000 off. Are you sure the price he started with was legit. There are price list available for each manufacture. They have the prices and you will know what the cash price is before any discount.

The legal paperwork will be sent to the dealership after it's processed. Best the employee at a dealership doesn't have their name on it. You need to have all legal documentation in your possession or whoever holds it can do as they please with it. Every year you need to pay the tax in it. It is required that the person who has their name on the title show up and pay this. Then, you need to look down the road for when you may want to sell it.

I think the way you want to buy a motor is a fools journey. Go find someone that has a motor and work out a long term rental. Like by month or 6. That or find a used one with all it's paperwork and current tax and just buy that. Again, just make sure the paperwork is in your possession. Whoever has that can do what they please with it.

I agree with Fastpitch- If you do buy the buy be sure you keep the booklet that comes with it (preferably locked in a safe) and a copy of the other party's ID card.
My first motorcycle here was a 2nd hand Honda & I just paid cash for it from a geezer in the street. He gave me the book & I had his ID etc. We were able to change the registration with the police (SAMSAT) but it was years later when the 5 yr plate was due. I think I was on the old SosBud visa at that time.
My next bike was a new one but my bro in law works at the Yamaha dealership, so I just basically told him to get on with sorting it out for me- but I was on a KITAS/P at the time re that one.

And do you have an international motor bike permit and home licence or Indonesian licence? If you have any sort of accident without a licence then no insurance company will pay out. Lots of awful tales of people with huge bills here after they weren't covered by insurance as they did not have an appropriate licence.

so she can take it once you get to argue with her ?! lol
Yeah, also not so sure with what kind of woman that dude is hanging with 🤣

I have the bike for a few months now. There have been few typos in the ownership book so it had to go through 2 revisions. Always triple check those docs especially frame number. Besides that I'm very happy with the bike!

Finally a post that is Funny!
Actually we need more funny or positive posts or subjects in this forum. All I ever read about are problems, problems and problems again. Ok.. it's also kinda normal that people seek help for problems here.
Just saying, the news and forums are full with problems....

Jup, asked for specific information but got a lot of counseling, I never asked for, lots of assumptions have been made. Seems like first hand experiences are rare or people dealing with wrong people. Whoever is seeking for problems will find them for sure. I hope everyone is having a worry free day with less problems and more enjoyment :)

Just to be clear, I didn't mean to make fun of you. Everything can work or not and sometimes trust will "pay out" sometimes not. As long as it works all is good.

And reassure us. You now have a motorbike licence?

Good I am thinking the same thing! Let's be more positive and supportive!

Thanks for your concern Harryopal! Yes I do a license, Not for a motorbike but, it is a license to Fly! High above all the Worry, Stress, Greed, Anger, and Sadness, of what we all, as A family of Mankind, are fighting for what is in the End! Just Dust in The Wind!
So fill for me a parting Glass! Goodnight, and Joy, be With You All!

So happy to admit to being a criminal - breaking the law - no licence - therefore no insurance.

Disgusting. God help you one day if you hit a kid or smash into a Mom and Pop warung or something.

I ain't got/never had bike insurance (me & about 170million others here).
I have always been told insurance on vehicles is optional, hence so many not having it.
Certainly none of the a/holes who have rear-ended or side-swiped my car have ever come up with insurance.
The culture here, that I have seen tends towards the person at fault handing over a chunk of red notes and it being over and done with. I am not being cavalier about this & I understand that it may be different in different areas, and amongst different echelons of society.

Sometimes (often) you come across as just a bit too prissy and beyond judgemental (perhaps a little navel gazing about how to be a tad less irritating is called for), or perhaps you live in so much fear of what MIGHT happen that you are not open to alternatives in life.
It isn't all locked down to a route between two rails, there are other options besides the robbing buggers at insurance companies- one of them is CHC- Cold Hard Cash.
