Bringing in Aussie meat

I have brought in Italian Parmesan and Romano cheeses, as well as common mozzarella, pepperjack and Mexican style cheeses with no problem.

I concur, cheese in REASONABLE quantity, would rarely attract attention, and even displayed in front of a custom officer may be totally overlooked.

Alkohol is probably the item the more often seized, for multiple reasons.

As perhaps you know I work in the F&B industry, supplying the Horeca market in Eastern Indonesia. Funnily enough I have already been proposed a few times in JKT to purchase stocks of alkohol which had been seized (and therefore should have been destroyed and certainly not reinjected in the market). I never got proposed (and will probably never be proposed) to purchase half a container of seized cheese :).

I am surprised that after 1.000 posts and a few years with us a poster discover that yes, we can discuss openly about overstay, riding without an helmet, the existence or not of God, criticizing the Indonesian government, or entering Indonesia with 2 tenderloins and 3 camembert, despite the fact that all of this highly subversive activities are illegal (and perhaps even big no-no) in Indonesia.

Personally I consider that people joining this forum are grown adults, even though sometimes some questions asked have me wondering if I am not too enthusiastic. :)
Talking about smuggling of any kind is a slippery slope. What works for some not so bad things also works for others. No problem for me. Everyone is free to do what they want.

We rarely bring any alcohol in. In fact the last bottle we brought in 2020 or 2021 hasn’t even been opened.

But be prepared for consequences if you knowingly or out of ignorance carry stuff that is restricted.

I don't understand why my suggestion of going to customs, or contacting them online about the legal limits required to bring in any product from outside, then just buy the legally allowed amount. Why does everyone keep talking about smuggling and trying to bring in more than allowed?

There is no legal amount for those products without an import license.

We've been going over this subject and Some people say they bring things is, No Problem, is there a list of the limits? Is there anybody out there that knows where to get the Proper information from the Customs, and Immigration Department?

What I don't understamd i how you the O.P. thinks he can bring in several kg of meat ?
I know it's only a 4 h flight, but how are you going to keep the meat fresh ?
Ice box ? That is sure to attract the attention ....

I’ve taken perishable items in luggage up to 30 hours before. Usually butter, cheese, cooked ham. Often will freeze the items, and put in a refrigerated bag. I originally put cold freeze packs inside, but just found the frozen items worked better, and let me bring more stuff.

Processed meat may have different rules but a cut of flesh like a steak or roast is a no-no. Maybe someone else can answer about processed meant? The import license is for large amounts, is very expensive and complicated to get. People are saying they bring things in and just haven't been caught. Just like people ride motorbikes without a helmet and don't get caught. Doesn't change the fact that they are technically "smugglers".

It is not straight forward. You need to set up a company for this purpose and Register your company and obtain a Business Identification Number (NIB).

And then get the API - Angka Pengenal Importir (Importer Identification Number), an identity for companies to import goods into Indonesia.

If it was that easy many people would have done that.
