Bali's Gunung Agung Alert Level Raised

Nope its not, some students (I assume in the USA considering their teacher's location) programmed a camera onboard ISS to snap the pic LOL... you little truth twister you.

Mount Agung tremor energy has constantly decreased since it peaked on Sept 22. Hoping that this is a good thing.

Great! Let's hope it continues long enough for the experts to knowledgeably conclude it's safe for the foreseeable future.

Great news! I have a long planned Bali holiday with my children from Australia commencing next weekend. "Murphy's Law" usually bites me but hopefully this time I maybe in luck.

I don’t want to be unduly silly, but if the volcano calms down, it won’t suddenly go pop without any warning, or will it start rumbling to give people a good chance to get out the way

Hmm I just booked to go there thurs to sun, hope it turns out well.
If it pops and I never post again, you all know why! XD

That's my concern as well, although it is my understanding as a layperson that stratovolcano eruptions do generally give several weeks warning through earthquake tremors and deformation as the magma rises to the surface (which we are much better able to sense these days with modern technology). If these signs subside, as they apparently are, then the experts would feel fairly confident saying that an eruption is not imminent and there will be warning signs if the volcano rumbles back to life.

But I'm not a geologist at all, much less a vulcanologist in particular. I just find reading about the science behind natural disasters interesting. So I wouldn't put much stock in my own words. Also, I guess different volcanoes have different patterns, and one of the problems with Agung is that we don't have data going back very far, so its "typical" eruption sequence is not well understood.

I hope you are all sittting comfortably, good, then I will begin, it appears Yellowstone Park in Wyoming is a super volcano, it appears it is a few thousand years overdue, if it does go off, that will be that, the other bit of exciting news is that a volcano at the Canary isle rumbling, if it does blow its top it will or may cause a gigantic tsunami, which will reach the east coast of the US causing untold damage plus to UK and Eire, all pretty depressing really, but anyway have a good evening and as Alfred E Neumann said, Don’t worry

it appears Yellowstone Park in Wyoming is a super volcano,

We went to Yellowstone in August of this year. It was AMAZING. Until I saw it, I hadn't really understood all the info and stories (supervolcano, occasional tourists falling into acid pools and dissolving, and so on). Now I do. It's surreal - scary, bubbling, beautiful landscapes. I want to say it is "unearthly," but ... it IS earth. That's what makes it scary.

Let's see if I can upload this video I took...

Sorry Pusp, I cannot open , always wanted to go there, it seems a really interesting place

The video is not working Puspa. Maybe it needs to be listed as "public" in your YouTube settings?

Thanks for the heads up - I thought it was public, but it wasn't. Does it work now? I'm not very good at this newfangled technology...

Yep it opened, truly fantastic, it’s on my wish list to visit, but I don’t think I will make it now

Fab video Pusp... might have to consider going there one day.

Also - did you see Yogi & BooBoo too?

That's Jellystone Park, BA. :)

Yellowstone Park is great. Went there first on a family vacation in 1974, I think. Went again in the late 80's. Man, it was so cold camping there in the summer!

I'm reading news from many sources of an imminent eruption. Personally, I want the thing to blow to get it over with so people can get on with, or pick up the pieces of their lives. A delay in the inevitable just means people are living in limbo, and fear.

The thing with these pesky volcanoes is that they dance to their own tune & to hell with everything else... downright inconsiderate of them if you ask me :D
