Amazing how many governments cannot see past the end of their noses. The ever increasing traffic chaos- untrammeled buildings popping up everywhere in Bali leads local government to measures such as building a ring road, an underpass a new airport and more infrastructure. While this is being done the chaos will worsen but nonetheless it is hoped this will all result in more tourists; albeit with the disappearance of the charm of Bali.
In Australia there is a major crisis in accommodation affordability with pensioners unable to pay for accommodation out of their pensions and homeless becoming commonplace not only in cities but towns throughout the nation. The governments and councils seem incapable of comingto grip with the immensity of the reality. Governments talk of new houses in terms of 5 or 10 years while ending rental assistance programs for the poorest. Councils see the problem of people living in tents and vans in parklands as needing to bullgoze camp sites and fining these, the poorest of people $800 if they don't move immediately. The councils talk of referring these homeless people to housing agencies which in fact do not have the capacity to help the majority.
And we wonder why there are social upheavals and revolutions. India being th latest case in point.
