A Bali airport runway was closed for an hour last night and a Saudi Arabian man was hauled off a flight shortly before take off after he was heard saying "this flight will explode after take off".

Eleven flights were delayed as a result of the hoax bomb threat, including seven international and four domestic flights.

The man was on a Lion Air flight from Denpasar to Jakarta when he made the comments as the plane taxied to take off about 6.20pm (Local time).

The matter was taken so seriously that the Bali police chief himself questioned the men who were then escorted to a hotel under guard. A decision will be made for them to fly to Jakarta today.

Of course a matter like this is taken seriously. If this guy was in a US flight he would be in jail now, pending deportation. Why people choose to "joke" in this manner, is beyond me.

Joking about bombs on planes is stupidity personified and I'd have no sympathy for the guy if he was blacklisted for five years. Not only is he a moron, he's inconvenienced hundreds if not thousands of travelers, wasted local resources and no doubt terrified anyone who heard his comments. Ban the fool from entering Indonesia again for five years minimum.

I was in a baggage check queue at Witchita airport going to Chicago, a Canadian in front of me made a joke about a bomb, they whisked him away, I often wonder if he ever got back to Canada

Problem is we will have to watch our conversations on a flight in case it's wrongly interpreted....i.e.

If my MOM hears about this...she'll EXPLODE!
I went to the PROM...it was a BLAST!
Forgot to apply my skin BALM....it'll BURN and BOOM!
Mon HOMME....que signifie ce mot 'DETONATE'!

Yeah. Not funny.

I am sure his nationality had nothing to do with his obtuse choice of commic material.

During a screening at a TSA checkpoint with my then teenage daughter a decade ago, the swab test "alarmed". My daughter asked me why it happened, and I explained that they were looking for explosives. The TSA person cautioned me not to use that word. To me it was silly, as that's the main thing these swab tests are looking for.

And what warmie has your remark to do with the thread,

As it happens there were two Canadians, we were together on a course at Cessna Witchita, when our flight to Chicago departed, we have no idea what happen to the Canadian as he didn't get our flight

My point was that no nationality has a lock on unfortunate word choices, here comments inappropriate for an airport boarding area. Making comments, ill advised for a particular setting, is what the thread is about, is it not?
