Aviation info.

The pilot and co-pilot were bf and gf, and the boss had a mate with him and a hot ex miss thailand who worked for him but wasn't his daughter?
I think the marketing girl was also very hot if I remember, the press went all ga-ga about her when they first saw her, but she wasn't on the flight either

203 Garuda Indonesia planes to have free Wi-Fi service.

One aspect of flying with AirAsia that annoys me is having to pay for wifi (I don't), and although I haven't flown with Garuda in years, I wish all airlines would adopt a similar policy of fitting out their fleet with free internet.

National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia announced that 203 of its airplanes would be equipped with free Wi-Fi.

Antara news agency reported that the airplanes included 50 units operated by Citilink Indonesia, 103 units by Garuda Indonesia and 50 units by Sriwijaya Air.

Garuda’s low-cost subsidiary, Citilink, launched on Friday its free Wi-Fi. Juliandra Nurtjahjo, Citilink Indonesia’s director, said features in the 203 planes would be identical to those in Citilink.

I wonder if that includes Garuda's low cost affiliate, Citilink?

My lazy ass thanks you for the update. I occasionally fly Citilink out of Halim; maybe the next one will be one of the 50.

Lion Air and Boeing are heading into a $30b feud

The crash of a Boeing plane that killed 189 people in Indonesia is spiralling into a $US22 billion ($30.6 billion) feud between the aircraft maker and one of Asia's most influential aviation bosses.

In a rare public dispute between the plane maker and one of its biggest customers, the head of PT Lion Mentari Airlines has threatened to cancel an order for billions of dollars of jets because of what he says is Boeing's unfair reaction to the crash.

Kirana has started a public spat with the plane maker. Lion Air is drafting documents to scrap its $US22 billion of orders with Boeing because, Kirana says, the manufacturer unfairly implicated his airline in the disaster.

Put me firmly in the camp of "No thanks".

JAKARTA (AFP) - Indonesian national flag carrier Garuda is taking music to the skies with a series of live acoustic concerts on domestic flights, the airline said.

Passengers will be serenaded at 35,000 ft in a scheme aimed at wooing millennials "who want a different flight experience", airline spokesman M. Ikhsan Rosan told AFP.

Garuda said sets would last 10 to 15 minutes on select flights, and there would be a focus on promoting upcoming talent.

While it may prove an unforgettable flying experience for some, it may not be everyone's idea of a good time.

Another day, another Lion Air plane overruns a runway. This one with video taken from the cabin tho, so pretty cool. (Scroll right to get to video)

The prices of the flights are all over the map* btw. Esp. Garuda has been very expensive lately. Esp. their domestic flights but also Amsterdam etc. were ridiculous. The Singapore and Kuala Lumpur routes are often cheaper than Batam or Solo for instance. Now, I did read somewhere the price of kerosine in RI will go down and I don't know if that will have a positive impact on local flights.

* some examples:
Qatar Airways offers business class flights to JFK which are cheaper than many of their European destinations.
Flights Denpasar-Jakarta on the same day in high season vary between 700K and 3.5 Juta.

And of course the whole model of paying for check-in luggage, adopted by Citilink and Lion will not help. As predicted, there have been huge discussions at airports since the new bagage policy was not well communicated.

I used to be able to do Banyuwangi - SUB - DPS for 900k to 1,1 Juta last year. Now its all around 1,5 to 1,6 Juta.
With Garuda.
I dont fancy the L.C. ones...... arrived at 66 old in decent state, no point to gamble that away !

Again an accident with a new Boeing 737 MAX. Ethiopian Airlines flight with over 140 passengers.

And again just minutes after take off? Chances of same altitude problem as Lion Air ?

Boeing must be getting nervous now.

This is really bad, 157 casualties.

Quite a mix of nationalities in those casualties btw; 33. But I don't know if we can really trust the listings since the 5 Dutch for instance, seem to be Germans (but I guess it's the everlasting misunderstanding with Deutsch).

The crashes have a number of similarities beyond the aircraft manufacturer. A bit early to be assigning blame.

There are some eerie similarities, but obviously need to let the investigation to finish to draw actual conclusion. Normally, two aircraft going down due to the same cause within a relatively close time is unlikely because you know that everyone is on alert. But again, too early to tell.

The 737 MAX series is (was?) poised to be one of the most successful commercial aircraft in history, with over 5000 orders. Of those, the accident aircraft, the MAX 8 variant, have the largest portion at over 2500 orders. Around 350 737 MAXs are in service already.

Boeing has delivered over 10,000 737s since the aircraft was developed initially in the 1960s. The popularity of the aircraft soared in recent year, as low cost travel mushroomed. In fact, Boeing has delivered more 737s in the last 6 years than it did in the first 30 years of production.

Ya, do you remember statement from the founder and President of Lion Air, when they ordered more than 200 of this particular plane? He said: "The 737 MAX will be the future of Lion Air". Not sure if it's smart to connect your fate to a supplier and depend so much on a product (which is in fact, just a tool) And of course after the crash the blaming and possible cancellation of orders started.
