Mauricio once commented that Indonesian toothpaste brand ANTIPLAQUE is more expensive (but better) than multinational brands.

I have been using ANTIPLAQUE for years, we always kept several months (up to a year probably) of supply at home.

When stock is low (usually 2-4 tubes of 180g each), we buy at supermarkets. But it has been missing from the shelves since months ago.

I go online at Tokopedia, the only store (Raja Beras Surabaya) selling the 180g put each tube on sale at 897k. Last time we bought at supermarket the price was about 80k. So Seller’s price is outrageous (tenfold).

Other stores don’t have the 180g tube (out of stock) but have 110g. One of the stores (Larisss Store id) even sells the same 110g at four different prices, 145k,149k, 175k,199k per tube. The highest price is 689k per 110g tube sold by the same Seller above selling the 180g tube.

I heard earlier this year or late last year that the company was having labor issues. I don’t know if it’s resolved already or not. There was not much news thereafter. Hopefully, the factory which produces ANTIPLAQUE will operate again as their toothpaste is one of the best in the world.

I would be very skeptical about it being better than other brands.
Lots of the toothpaste (in fact most) available on supermarket shelves is made in Indonesia (imported products are expensive).
I have checked the ingredients in Antiplaque and it seems to be a standard toothpaste with the active triclosan and fluoride (same like any colgate toothpaste you can get here).

Clinical testing toothpastes is expensive and small companies just dont bother to do it - whereas the large multinationals have deep pockets to ensure their formulas actually work (and I know people who have worked in those companies who run those tests). I have run one toothpaste trial myself but it was just an whitening trial so not as complex as the anti-plaque / anti-caries claims.
I stick to colegate - have for years.

You have to understand why imports are so expensive. It's because the Indonesian Government adds on a 400% tax. It's not the other countries, or shipping cost!

I like Sensodyne. Also much cheaper here than in my home country.

Just like vets with petfood, dentists are sponsored by manufacturers btw.

There is nothing that they add a 400% tax to. Even luxury items come in at the 35% total rate.

If I remember correctly, luxury items are currently maxed at 125%. For certain cars. Theoretically it could be up to 200%. Still high.

My information came from here https://www.cekindo.com/blog/import-duty-indonesia. It's possible that it is not completely accurate but I haven't personally seen anything taxed at 125 to 200 %. What are some examples of items that will be taxed at 125% to 200%? The link does show up to 200% taxes on certain luxury items but the wording is mixed in at the bottom. Not easy to see if skimming the article.

Not many people know that ANTIPLAQUE contains Clove Oil.

I don't know what Arnica Montana Extract and Eugenia Caryophyllus Extract are, it could be exotic ingredients too.

ANTIPLAQUE is a local brand not only manufactured in Indonesia but also developed in Indonesia which distinguishes it from foreign brands made in Indonesia.

The product has always been priced higher than Colgate, Pepsodent, or even Sensodyne.

Eugenia Caryophyllus Extract = clove oil

Arnica is a plant from Central Europe, they use it since the Middle Ages to treat wounds etc.
