American chained up in Bali for jogging during Nyepi.

I know plenty of happy Muslims in Bali. Even wearing hijab. One is a young girl married to a Canadian. And she's perfectly happy living there and accepted by all
Great! You've got one example. Maybe even 10.

Well re the road closures etc that's part of Asian culture and community

Your touching a nerve here for me....not sure why you equate this as the same as Nyepi and there are plenty of locals who complain about this too. In my case my small/medium size road in Jakarta gets closed about 8 times a year as one guy is using his house for wedding business and it takes over the road. That alone wouldnt be bad but full sized dangdut bands that makes the nearby houses literally shake.

Not something I fight about but something I do get pissed off about and I'm surprised you are just chalking this sort of thing up to a cultural deal and a like it lump it attitude. So again how is that anything to do with Nyepi - I guess you are talking about nicer, quieter Balinese weddings but then where do you draw the line?

Oh and if it was the Lamborghini club I would complain too.

It should bother everyone not just me or a few people. Breaking the law for personal benefits should never be "part of the community". Perhaps that's why corruption is so rampant, AND acceptable in Asia.
what law was broken where?

but did this suddenly start AFTER you moved in? Or is your street the only one in Indonesia that sometimes has these things?
You need to learn to relax and let things flow. This is definitely Asian culture, you must have realised that when you came here, married an Indonesian and moved to house in a kampung street that has a lot of weddings.
Really 8 times a year bothers you? Thats not even once a month. If it was truly an "emergency" I am sure they would move the chairs apart for you.

house in a kampung street that has a lot of weddings.

First five years no parties. Then the owner across the street died and his son took over and started using the house for functions and wedding parties.

Also a small to medium size road in Kemang. If it is kampung then it's a very rich one; although of you go behind that guy's house and down a bit then you do reach an area more like a traditional kampung so this is from that area spilling out. I have always been of the view that if a person has a relative getting married then by all means use the house and the road, but once it turns into a business then there are better places for it - in fact there is a government owned facility not far away which is often used.

he said 8 times a year
I said not even once a month

I presume you are referring to the call to prayer?? Well there are also mosques in Europe too
I have never heard a mosque calling to prayer in europe ?

I am pleased I never had the pleasure in Europe of the early morning din !, during my work stints .
I had enough of early morning disturbance in the 40 or so muslim countries I worked in .

Besides I don't see anyone moaning when the Lamborghini club of Indonesia blocks the road so they can do rolling photoshoot?

Seriously? Perhaps selective editing/listening on your behalf then.

not at all - please show me where that post or thread is?

lol, you're funny. I didn't realise complaints about the lamborghini car club has to be restricted to expatindo.com

well surely there must be at least a mention? God knows there's dozens of people who moan about their street being closed for a wedding as if anyone here can make the problem go away

I have never seen or heard anyone have the balls to comment anywhere about the (e.g) Lambo club doing rolling roadblock photoshoots, not even in the papers? In fact there are often articles showing them off?
Likewise in front of Senayan City on early Sunday mornings when they do drag bike races with the kampung kids

Anyway now your road likely to be closed off for Covid, so you can moan on here about that then, or about how your shoes got wet when they drove past spraying diluted clorex on the roads hahahaha

And that's not meant as "you" personally Mr King

Come on, it's ONE day per year... Whats the point of trying to defy the rule just for the fun it ? Maybe one of those US Youtubers that try to piss off police bragging on their rights of this and that ?

And as in ANY country, if you dont like the rulez , just move on.
This kind of guys just contribute to give a bad reputation that later reflects on all bulé.

A bit like the Bogans who think tattoos can replace a shirt in a restaurant.....
Just trying to open the minds of the forum rakyat!
