Those who haven't yet had the delight of using a bum gun might enjoy the following article. One piece of advice I would like to offer is always test bum gun water pressure before use as the mistake of not doing so may widen the eyes......., and other parts of your anatomy. Personally, I'm a convert.

...you may need to mentally and physically prepare yourself. It can be daunting at first, but understand millions of people around the world use it, and plenty of travellers return home only to install them in their homes, so they really can’t be that bad.
You don’t want to accidentally drench your legs, back or t-shirt, so don’t embrace your inner Rambo just yet.
Once you’re feeling fairly confident with your aim, you can up the power to ensure you’re actually cleaning the area in question and not just wetting it.
Whilst many Western travellers and expats with then proceed to have a secondary clean with toilet paper, it’s completely normal by local standards to take your bare hand and use it in tandem with the spray to clean yourself. We know, it sounds a little disgusting, but it makes for a superior cleaning experience

I much prefer the basic Toto sprayer mounted under the lid.

I had no idea what a "bum gun" referred to until I opened the thread. But of course! How could I not have instantly figured that out?

It could also, and I speak from unforgettable personal experience here, result in drenching the entire surface of your bathroom mirror, and most of the rest of the bathroom, with water spray.

Dislike. You never know which direction it is going to end up. And there is always a delay from turning off to the water stopping.

Not on the basic versions. For the types that have a plastic tube that extends when you turn it on, there might be a bit of a delay, maybe a second or so.

It’s pointed at your butt, so not sure where else it would go.

Water follows a parabolic arc, so it inevitably moves. I dunno how big you butt it, but mine is not so large as to always get randonly hit by the stream of water. The rest of my privates and half my back are also likely targets...

Good grief, is that what it’s for, I’ve been syringing my ears,

I've been in some Asian toilets, usually public ones, where I was certain people thought they were there for taking a shower...

After hash runs these have been known to make makeshift showers.

Were did the assumption in the West that wiping your ass with paper is acceptale heigene get its start? Probably from toilet paper merchants aided by Madison Avenue.

That may be a new idea but, during wartime, when I wiped my arse we used ripped-up newspaper on a spike sitting on the toilet floor. I wish we had those asian bidet sprays because I can tell you........newspaper is very hard on the nether sensitive parts of one's anatomy.

That is why...although I constantly aspire to be the perfect asshole it cannot be so....because of ripped-up newspaper.:thumb:

Hard to find a good hand-held bidet in the USA; not much available other than cheap plastic -- at least in my price range. Had to order several durable brass models from Hong Kong. Thanks Ebay.

Yep rember the newspaper, at least we didn’t have to go down the yard, especially on a cold winters night,

I figure it's simply a compromise that in the West people would rather have a mostly clean ass and a totally clean hand than the possibility of having a very clean ass and very (but not perfectly!) clean hand.

I take it that hand washing is not one of your family traditions

i try and avoid the bum gun, the automatic ones I've been exposed to seem to be aim directly into the target zone, sometimes with enough force that i could gargle

I love them - hate being back in the west and having to use toilet paper. I just don't feel very clean and after all if you got shit on your hand would you just wipe it off with tissue and consider it clean ?? Also toilet paper these days seem to give me a really sore date hole.
