Some Problems of Our World

Many sellers on Shopee enforce a No Unboxing Video? No Refund! policy. Which really sucks esp. if you’re by yourself and it‘s complicated to unpack.

It doesn't matter how big the 'Wajib Video Unboxing' sticker is; ultimately, a seller cannot enforce anything because it is someone at Shopee who decides whether you get your money back. And making an unboxing video of your order is not (always) a requirement to resolve a dispute. Unfortunately it was, in your case.

Since we are sharing anecdotes... my wife had a dispute with a seller last month regarding a garment with damaged fabric. It appeared the damage was caused by heat. When my wife confronted the seller about it, she accused my wife of ironing the garment at too high a temperature. She had a packing video (yes, these people exist) and a "Wajib Video Unboxing" sticker on the package. The seller did not agree to the return of the garment because we didn't have an unboxing video and she claimed my wife had caused the damage. Because we couldn't resolve the matter via chat, we filed a complaint requesting Shopee for a refund upon the return of the garment. We got the money back that very evening.

What was that quote about democracy ? - something along the lines that it's the very worst political system, except for all the others.

"Democracy has proved only that the best way to gain power over people is to assure the people that they are ruling themselves. Once they believe that, they make wonderfully submissive slaves."

---Joseph Sobran

The fact that countless millions feel as if they have political agency because they can cast a 'vote' every once in a while is astounding to me.

IMHO, Freedom/Freedoms is/are the truest measure of a society, not whether or not one lives in a self-styled 'democracy' where a highly intelligent person who contributes to the community has exactly the same 'vote' as a low IQ sloth.

Ah yes, someone once said, to paraphrase... "You put the mark of an illiterate on a piece of paper once every 5 years and kid yourself that you have any influence"

It's not as if politicians, once they get their claws on power seem to feel any need to actually do what they promised either - has anyone ever tried to sue a political party for breach of contract I wonder.
