Been wondering since there have been quite a few ex-wni threads popping up, how many ex-wnis out there? Obviously we can't meet up in person as the Covid/PPKM is still in place...maybe someday...sharing stories...and coming up with more fun names than ex-wni...

So far I have myself, Dannyboy..Yantiharun....Euc (?) sorry if I missed a few.

Hello there...

I must say I’m very happy that my belief that “I can’t be the only one” has been proven correct. It’s not that “exes” don’t exist, it’s that unless they are asked for official documents they blend in well with the background.

Thanks for those who replied!! I was beginning to lose hope!! Let's keep 'em coming!!

I wonder if there are any cases of people who were born and brought up in Indonesia and never lived anywhere else, but still became EX wni because they chose to retain their second nationality (of one of their parents) instead of Indonesian. 🤨

Actually I know some dual citizen kids (a swiss and a brit) who have chosen their foreign citizenship at age 21 instead of their Indonesian one and despite having lived and being educated here their whole childhood and teenage years.
Well the Swiss one moved to Europe at 17 so she didn't spent her whole life here till her decision but the Brit one spent all her time here prior to her decision.
This being said both became Indonesian AFTER the 2006 citizenship law, like my son, and had to go through the naturalization process in order to have the right to Indonesian citizenship.
It means that they have been raised as FOREIGNERS for their childhood years and it may have impacted them? I remember when my kid was a child I insisted on preserving him and would tell him he was a dual national even though he wasn't legally. I know other parents who kept repeating to their kids that they were foreigners instead of Indonesian or dual national. It doesn't help in this conditions to have a bond with Indonesia.

If the current citizenship law were adopted 15-20 or so years earlier, I would probably be ex-WNI...

Does that count?:p

Edit: Actually scratch that, I would be WNI...haha.
