DON'T PANIC.... well, maybe a little bit.

A member of the Yogyakarta parliament (DPRD) died after not being able to find an ICU bed. You can be sure that if he didn't find one, there isn't one available anywhere in the city. Regardless of what the bed occupancy statistics say. You can imagine the difficulties an average person has right now getting a hospital bed.

Attention foreigners in Bali: Not wearing masks in public now subject to immediate deportation.

The Rp 1 million fine no longer applies, due to the current emergency, says Bali's regional head of the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

Just like to share my recent experience on Covid 19.

I've had my final Sinovac vaccine on March 31st. Last week, on June 23rd I was starting to cough a lot so the next day on June 24th I have decided to get the PCR test at the hospital nearby. That evening I received a positive test result with 19.65 ct value (you need to have ct value <35 to be negative). I went to see the doctor that same day and she prescribed 3 different medications: Antibiotic, Anti virus and cough medicine. She also told me to do self isolation and keep taking my daily vitamins: C, D3 and Zinc. She mentioned that If I haven't got vaccinated I will be in the worse shape and it will take sometimes to recover or worse need hospitalization.

Today - Day 8th of self isolation, I am feeling good, cough is almost gone, no fever or body ache, no trouble of breathing, oxygen level is 98. And Chanel no. 5 is never smell so good. Yeah, I got my sense of smell back. Although the food still does not quite taste like it should be.

After 14 days of isolation, I am planning to get another PCR test to determine that I have completely recover from Covid 19.

Also, this is exactly why I got an extra vaccination in the US. Sinovac's vaccine seems rather ineffective against the "delta" variant.

Sinovac and Sinpharm vaccines need 1-2 months after the second shot to start working. Otherwise, they are relatively safe and effective.

I hope this is true, though some of the doctors here in Indonesia were among the first to get vaccinated, and they still got sick with the delta variant. I am confident in my own health, though I worry about my wife, who just received her first Sinovac shot, and my kids - who will likely not be vaccinated for a few more weeks.

Many infections for recipients of Sinovac/Sinopharm after the 2nd shot. They simply get more relaxed, behave as everything is normal but they are not yet protected, as they should wait the mentioned 1-2 months.

To be fair, when I was in the US, everything was "more relaxed". Basically, from the time I left the airport, I never saw any masks except at the Apple store. I was in relatively rural :"red state" areas, but it was like vacationing to an area in which covid did not even exist. Reality hit like a sledge-hammer when I went through multiple time-consuming covid test checks at Soekarno-Hatta and went directly into quarantine here in Jakarta.

I've heard that the masks back on now because of the Delta variant
Do you have to be quarantined when you enter the US and if you did, how many days?

No quarantine whatsoever. When I queued up for passport control, an employee went through the queue asking to see either paper printouts or handphone confirmations of our COVID tests, but that was about it. It was FAR more casual than the process at Soekarno-Hatta. In the US, there was no quarantine requirement at all.
Edit to add: The passport control agent was baffled that I had voluntarily spent time in Indonesia. He even phrased the question, "Why on earth were you in Indonesia?" I politely explained that I live here and work as a teacher at an international school. He asked whether i had brought over $5000 USD in cash, and I replied, "I am a teacher, so no."

That's good. It seems that now you need to be quarantined where ever you go.

Indeed. there's no quarantine requirement in US.
At the airport, we prepared our printed PCR test report and attestation form, but nobody asked. Not even temp. screening. very relax. On some restaurants, mask is optional or not required if you have been vaccinated.
Let see, if in September Indonesia still require Quarantine, we'll visit US again assuming no quarantine requirement.

Moderna/Phizer/AZ/Sputnik start working soon after the first shot so people are more relaxed with a reason. The Chinese vaccine not so.

Glad you're feeling much better. I am quite confused though...if you got 19.65 ct value, but you said smaller than 35 is negative?

Honestly, the Sinovac shots basically had no effect on me. The J&J was fine too, although I had a mild sinus infection a few days later (no idea if it was related, as I am susceptible to sinus infections in general - especially when sleep-deprived as I was after my flights).

It is determined by the state. I have a colleague who just returned here, and Indiana health department asks him to stay home for a number of days, then get tested. If he tests negative, then he is free to be out and about. If he tests positive, then they’ll order him to stay home for 10 days. Other states can have different rules.
